The Artist/Poet Exhibit is dedicated to David K. Leff who passed away suddenly a year ago tomorrow. He and his book, Depth of Field, which combines poetry and photography, inspired me to begin pairing poems and pictures several years ago.

Did some poetry submitting tonight. A few to an anthology about female protest and resistance poems and some social justice ones. There's actually a publisher looking for poems about DONUTS. If you happen to have one or are inspired to write one, email me and I'll send you the link.

rejuvenating my poetic soul in cloudy, rainy-but warm Florida. Finished my first book manuscript of poetry for adult readers. I'm getting great advice from friends/mentors who are acclaimed authors: I need to publish 30-50% of my individual poems in journals and reviews before even approaching major publishers. Also advised not to promote the fact that I've published award-winning children's books. It dismays me that children's books--which comprise the biggest piece of many major publishers' profits--are still looked down upon. Benighted attitudes.
Oh well, having grown up with 4 brothers and no sisters, I'm used to perseverance. Found a great quote in Poets & Writers: If you're not getting rejected 90% of the time, you're not shooting high enough. (something like that.) Well, at least I'm shooting high enough!

Best wishes for unending inspiration in 2016!

NATIONAL DAY ON WRITING! Had an energizing day at Goodwin College sharing writing tips, and ups and downs with students and fellow presenters: Feminist lit prof. Katie Kalagher, historical fiction author, prof. Brian Dixon, Prof. Cynthia McHale-Hendricks and more. Dynamic and diverse students!

Just submitted some manuscripts to Little Pickle Press. Has anyone tried them yet or tried Authors.me.com? Quite a lot of work filling these forms out. Hoping it's worth it.
