Cub Scout Pack 556 - Glendale Cub Scouting is more than something to do. It's all about who you are and the person you will become.

The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness. For over a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America believes — and, through over a century of experience, knows — that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society. Being a Cub Scout means you are a member of a worldwide youth movement that stands for certain values and beliefs. Cub Scouting is more than something to do. It's all about the boy you are and the person you will become. Cub Scout Pack 556 meets 3 Tuesdays a month in the Glendale cafetorium from 6:30 - 7:30 pm. You DO NOT need to be a Glendale student in order to join this pack. We have cubs from all over Tonawanda, Amherst and Buffalo. Our main focus is teamwork skills and friendship. We do a lot of great activities such as the Pinewood Derby, campouts, swimming, Zoo Snooze, Halloween and Holiday parties, Regatta Boat Race, a fossil dig and of course the annual Blue & Gold dinner. On Tuesday, June 5th will be meeting at Ellicott Creek Park at 6:30 pm at the shelter near the big playground set in the middle of the park. (Shelter 10 A&B)

We are going to be doing our own version of a 'slow roll' through Ellicott Creek park and Creekside. This will include the kids AND the adults. So bring your bicylcles, scooters or roller blades and helmits for all family members who are riding.

For those families who have children who arent old enough to ride a bike and need to stay back, the kids can play on the playground. We will only be riding for about 20 - 30 mins so we wont be gone that long.

We will have a snack when the slow roll group returns. See you there!!

The Cub Scouts are going to be cooking burgers and dogs at the 3rd Annual End of Year Celebration at Glendale. It is June 8th from 6pm - 8:30pm. A flyer went home with all the kids this week and has all the details.

The PTA approached the scouts to see if we could provide food and drinks for the party. I think it will be a great fundraising activity. Our hope is to bring in about $1,000 to the pack.

That said, here is what we need help with. There is going to be an estimated 300 attendees to this years celebration. We are going to sell Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Chips, Water and Pop. I am hoping to get all of the food and drinks donated. I will be going to local stores asking for donations and hope that some of the pack families can help as well. Here is what I am shopping for:

200 hot dogs (3 pound pack has 20 hot dogs = 10 packs) OR (5 pound pack has 35 hot dogs = 6 packs)
120 burgers (Sam's Club has 1/4 pound burgers in a box of 40 for $25 = 3 boxes)
200 Hot dog buns (8 buns per pack = 25 packs)
120 burger buns (8 buns per pack = 15 packs)
Ketchup Mustard and Relish (BJ's has a 4 piece picnic pack, we could use 2 of those)
10 cases of Pop - different variety
300 bottles of water - 8oz bottles
3 bags of charcoal
1 bag of lump charcoal

If everyone can pick up one or two items and let Rob know he can coordinate to make sure we have everything we need. If you would rather donate money, please let Rob know.

The Bears will be hosting their carnival tonight!! They have planned out games for everyone to enjoy. We will be outside weather permitting. They will have a Water Balloon Toss, Shell Game, Watermelon Eating contest, Toilet Paper Toss, Tatoo Station and Popcorn. This will be a lot of fun for all the boys and a great learning experience for the Bears! See you all tonight.

11/14/2017

After two weeks away, we will have our regular meeting this Tuesday night.

10/24/2017

Make sure you bring a trick or treat bag to hold all your treats!

10/23/2017

Tomorrow is the Halloween party! Dont forget to wear your halloween costume (adults...yes you too). As a reminder, we are doing a Trunk and Treat - decorate the trunk of your car so all the kids can trick or treat. The weather is calling for some rain, so a plan B of setting up in the school should be something to consider. There will also be a few games.

10/21/2017

If going to The Maize tomorrow, be prepared for muddy, dirty conditions. Dress for the weather. Wear clothes that you dont care that get ruined. Boots may be best. At the very least, a pair of crappy sneakers. But most importantly, have fun.

10/10/2017

Tuesday's meeting 10/10/17 will be an event for the entire Pack. We will still divide into groups for the activities but the theme of the meeting is Camping! This will help some of the boys who couldn't come last weekend keep up with those who did camp. The ones who did camp will enjoy the feeling of leading with experience.

When we are done, we will all gather at the campfire for a closing.

Adults, please bring a chair for outside, and a lantern if you have one. Bug spray might be a good idea, but I will have some too.

Lastly, please bring any Flapjack Fundraiser money, or a total of tickets sold so we have an idea of what to tell Applebee's to expect. I'm hoping that some of you will ask for more tickets to sell!

09/25/2017

Info for camping this weekend: Friday Sept 29th through Sun Oct 1st. The campsite is Stonehaven in Niagara County. The address is 4670 Albright Rd, Ransomville 14131. 6:00 pm arrival time on Friday and 10:00 am checkout/pickup time on Sunday. Always looking for help with cleanup on Sunday so be prepared for that.

09/25/2017

Reminder that there is no meeting this Tuesday (Sept 26th) because of Open House at Glendale. If there are any wolves or bears that are interested in helping at the recruitment table (in full uniform), kindly reach out to Rob. Or respond to this posting and I can let him know.

09/17/2017

Thanks for coming with your sons to our Rally Night. We got off to a great start. We are very proud of the way that our boys responded to the leadership of the Boy Scout Troop in our opening flag ceremony.

Welcome, to our new Tiger Cub Scouts: Joey, Finan, Colin, Marcus, Mason and James! And our new Webelos, Finn. We had a lot of fun together.

06/13/2017

Tomorrow (June 13th) is our annual Crossover Ceremony. See the email that was sent yesterday for all the details. Dont forget your folding chairs!

03/20/2017

The committee/parent meeting that we were supposed to have last Tuesday will be rescheduled for this Tuesday. Also, mark your calendar for April 4th for Cut Night of your pinewood derby car at the Sweet Home middle school.

03/14/2017

Because Glendale will be closed tomorrow, March 14th, the committee/parent meeting will be cancelled. Will keep you posted as to when it is rescheduled for.

01/31/2017

We are all going to have a meeting tonight, Tues, Jan 31st at the usual time and place. Then Wednesday night, Feb 1 we will swim at Sweet Home Middle School on Maple Rd from 6:30 to 8:30 pm including some pizza at the end in the cafeteria. We usually enter at the door 2nd from the right end of the building. If you know you are coming, but haven't told Steve yet, please contact him. It's ok if it's a last minute decision, we just want to order the pizza with as much knowledge as possible.

12/06/2016

Shannon will be heading tomorrow's meeting from 6:30 - 7:30. We will practice 10 songs, there will be a quick holiday activity and we will have cookies and milk:)
For those who cannot make it, we will pass out song books at the nursing home so we can all sing. We will sing the 10 songs in order and repeat them in order if need be:)
Here are the ten songs if you'd like to practice them:
1.frosty the snowman
2. Jingle bells
3. Santa Claus is coming to town
4. Rudolph
5. I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus
6. A holly jolly Christmas
7. Twelve days of Christmas
8.away in a manger
9. Deck the halls
10. Silent night
Thanks!!!!!

Yes, there is a Glendale event at Barnes and Noble, as well, but we hope that many of your boys (brothers and sisters also welcome) can practice.

Steve will be home at 235 Goundry in N.T. with some of the other parents working on the Pack's charter for the coming year, and also leader training. Please join us if you are planning on helping during the coming year as a registered leader.

10/16/2016

Great News...We had a profit of $542 dollars for today's flapjack fundraiser. Thank you to Karen (Jackson's mom) who spearheaded this fundraiser. She did a great job with the communication the cub scout families and handling the selling of the tickets. We sold 124 tickets, totaling $724 in sales. We had 100 people turn in their tickets at the event today and paid out a flat rate of $200 to Applebees.

10/15/2016

Already getting hungry for our flapjack fundraiser at Applebees tomorrow. First shift starts bright and early at 7:30 am. Serving between 8 and 10 am. Full uniform. See everybody then!

09/27/2016

Don't forget, tomorrow night is the first meeting of the new school year. It's RALLY NIGHT and we have a lot of great activities planned. We will be welcoming all new families who will join the Pack this year and hopefully see everyone who was part of the Pack 556 family last year.

09/16/2016

We have reserved a lean-to at camp Stonehaven for the Oct. 1-2 weekend. The camp out will be from 6 pm Friday night to 10am Sunday morning. Tbis one will be in one of the beautiful new lean-tos (Ganosote). It holds 12 people, but if we have that many boys the adults can sleep in tents. The lean-to has a wood stove and the weather will be nicer than any other we have been on based on the time of year. But no electricity and only three walls! A step up toward roughing it for our group. Cost will be $20 per scout, $10 for adults. A chance to camp at a beautiful time of year and begin our advancement activities.

The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness. Beginning in the 2018-2019 school year, not only are we accepting girls, we also are accepting Kindergartners!! For over a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun.
