****SEASON FLIP/CLOSURE****

Just a friendly reminder we are closed next week in order to get our clothing flipped over to Fall/Winter. We still have Halloween costumes and we are collecting winter coats of all sizes! Thank you for your continued support.

So you know that saying, better late than never? We were going through some old paper work and realized we never gave a shout out to Greg Minorczyk and Bill Jacobs and their band Awaken for a fundraising concert they did for us last fall. Thank you, gentlemen! And our sincerest apologies for the oversight. We appreciate your continued support! ❤️

Good afternoon! We are in search of a person or two that is willing to volunteer their time to pick up donations on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. The time is flexible (we are open to receive the donations Tuesday and Thursdays 10 AM - 4 PM). Any size vehicle will work but the bigger the better! Volunteers should be able to lift garbage bags of clothes on their own as there is not often help at the collection sites. If you or someone you know is interested, please call 218.9589, email [email protected]com or PM us to learn more. Thank you!

Yesterday we had several friends come together to load and drive backpacks stuffed by our Closet volunteers to schools throughout Ken-Ton. 😍 thank you to everyone who donated, prepped and delivered to help our students be ready for the first day of school. #muchlove

Also: If you know of anyone willing to sew masks for our families, please let us know. We especially need them for middle school and high school students (larger sizes). Please and thanks!

We are wishing everyone a healthy, happy year!

With all of our craziness last week we forgot to share some news.

Earlier this month there was a ride in memory of our friend Captain Christine Milosich. Her dad Fred stopped by with the donations in her name (with a generous gift from him, also). We are very humbled by this support in her name. Thank you to everyone who participated. 💙

A very special shout out to our volunteers that showed up this week to pack backpacks. Normally this is handled by a huge event and our ladies came and got it done by themselves. With COVID hitting us and a death in our family, this has been a rough few weeks. Thank you to everyone who contributed to help us meet our goal for our students this year! 😍

EDIT: WE WILL ALSO BE CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC THE WEEK OF AUGUST 23rd. We have a lot to get done with stuffing backpacks for back to school. Due to the number of local COVID cases rising, we are taking precautions to limit our volunteers’ exposure to large groups of people at this time. We anticipate reopening for shoppers the week of August 30th. We hope you understand! Thank you. ❤️

***IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT***

Due to a positive COVID test at the Closet, we are closed for this week to be on the safe side. This individual was masked/maintained social distance with customers. We are monitoring our volunteers for any symptoms and asking them to get tested if anything appears. Our facility was sterilized on Thursday and we will clean a few more times before we reopen. We will post updates here. Please note once we do reopen, we will be requiring masks regardless of vaccination status. The health and safety of our volunteers and customers is our number one priority. Thank you for understanding. ❤️

Two amazing stories to share!

We recently posted that we received 300 backpacks from The Teacher's Desk. We didn’t get an invoice so I called our liaison John there to have one sent to us. He let us know that they were donated to us because of our community work by our good friends Del and Chrissy Reid from 26 Shirts. 😍 How much do you love that? Thank you friends!!

We also want to thank the Pastor Elizabeth from the Zion Church and the Western Area Youth Mini Mission for filling backpacks for us! We are almost to our goal with just a few more supplies needed (lined loose leaf paper and post it notes). Much love to everyone for helping make this a successful year for our students!! ❤️

Good afternoon!

We have been receiving steady donations of school supplies amd are getting close to our goals. We have posted an updated picture of needs (see below). Besides direct donations, our new Venmo option is also working out fabulously (@kentoncloset). Thank you to everyone who has contributed!

Our gratitude to The Teacher's Desk for delivering 300 backpacks today and to our special volunteers for helping to unload and get them up to the second floor. Many hands make light work and we were grateful for your time and muscles!

****2021 School Supply Link, Help/Supplies needed***
PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE MESSAGE.

This Thursday we are receiving backpack delivery from The Teacher's Desk and could use some help unloading. We only need 10 people for 2 hours (9:30 - 11:30). A lot of people have asked about volunteering but because of COVID, we have had limited external opportunities available. We know slots will fill up quickly! Thank you in advance....details are on the registration link. We have also included a picture below of items we still need.
If you would like to contribute for us to purchase items, you can also Venmo @kentoncloset THANK YOU! The link to volunteer is here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/904084BADA923A0F94-kenton7

We know there is a lot of uncertainty this school year but we do believe there will be face-to-face learning and we want to help our students again with supplies. As a friendly reminder, the school supply program is only for children that live in the Village of Kenmore/Town of Tonawanda *AND* attend a school within Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda Union Free School District (the only exception is a special education placement by the District).

Please DO NOT sign your child up more than once and please be sure to fill out all of the information. Missing information could result in us not being able to process your order.

This year, we know some parents may decide to use online/home learning for their children...at this time we ask that school supplies be requested only for children attending school face-to-face. This is important because locks, backpacks, and dry erase markers are major expenses for us and we need to include those for students attending school buildings. We will work on supply options for those learning from home, if that is an option this year. We will still need to verify attendance through the District so your patience is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

We were so very honored to join Lake Effect Bait Tackle Charters, and Scime’s Tackle and Charter to support this year’s Town of Tonawanda Police Department’s Community Fishing Derby! It was fantastic to see kids so excited and spending time with their families. A special shout out to my friend and Closet volunteer Sherran Lockwood for helping with check-in and staying. I think she was just as happy as the kids were! 😊

Thank you to everyone who made this a great day! ❤️

This summer I had the pleasure of meeting Karen D'Arcy from Hammer & Stain Buffalo working on a project with the Town. I had her come by the Closet because we needed to have signs made for our rooms. Once she had a tour and got a vibe for what we did, she created several signs for us. I love that she captured the spirit of the Closet, they are handmade AND we supported a small, local business! She was also able to recreate a Calvin and Hobbes sign I used to keep in the volunteer room at the Closet when we were at Sheridan Parkside. Thank you, Karen, for your love and attention to this project! ❤️ #thinklocal #spendlocal #lovelocal Kenmore Business Association Kenmore Town of Tonawanda Chamber of Commerce

We know you love good news so we have to share!

Several months ago (and over a few years in the making), we finally got an outdoor collection bin thanks to the generosity of Hearts for the Homeless of WNY Inc. ® and Pastor Eric Napoli. We had it spruced up (painting and then decals added by FM Communications, Inc.) and it has been a huge hit. Our volunteers started noticing that water would get into the bin after storms damaging our donations that were in the bottom. We came up with an idea to build something that would provide a space between any water accumulation and clothing. A huge Thank you to Tom Matre at Pallet services for making us a custom pallet for our bin! Yay!! #lovethis

If my school age child (10 years old, previously at Hoover) is homeschooled and I have a toddler (23 months) can we still shop? Thank you :)
Is there a special time you would like volunteers tomorrow morning?
Just an idea to consider if you will. When you are able to open back up, could you consider having a few times when we could drop off our donations to Jefferson just like Ken ton cares drop off. This would save your volunteers time from pick up at totes which would fill so very quickly. Thank you.
while this doesn't have to do with the closet, I recently found a great site honoring our high school seniors. It allows a community members to adopt a senior, which basically entails sharing a few fun things with them trying to cheer them up in this tough time (they are missing out on a lot) a fun tee-shirt about quarantine, a grad book, something more personal... MY issue is only that there may be seniors who get missed, for various reasons. I was hoping this site and the pantry could get the word out.https://www.facebook.com/gro…/265353844635979/announcements/
