What a great visual to demonstrate a different way to open your pelvis to make room as baby decends. Has anybody tried this position? Is anyone going to try to mention this to their care provider as an option?

Let’s celebrate Livia!
Livia’s mom worked so hard to bring her earth-side, and has worked even harder since to feed her and keeping growing strong! Virgina was a force of nature during her labor, and roared Livia into the world with power and grace. Congratulations to this sweet new family of three! 🎉🎉🎉

Our latest Humans of Complete Doula Services story is empowering! With a lot of support from those around her, check out what she accomplished!
I grew up with stories of breastfeeding. My mom found La Leche League during her second pregnancy, back when their handbook was only 50 pages stapled together. She went on to become a LLL leader and breastfeed five babies. She loved helping other women get started and encouraging women with how easy it would become. My sister breastfed her four babies. Knowing women who thought breastfeeding was normal really helped me. When I found out I was having twins, I was excited but nervous. I asked my sister if I could have her freezer stash! But I got LLL's "Womanly Art of Breastfeeding" and learned that women who are pregnant with twins grow more milk producing tissue. Then I thought about my 98 pound great grandmother who breastfed twins during the Great Depression and all of them thrived. I knew I could do it. And I did! And I tandem breastfed my twins into my next pregnancy too.

“I thought I was prepared to begin breastfeeding and that it would come naturally to me and our baby. I didn't expect for us to be exhausted and dehydrated after a nearly 3 day labor. The initial latch was ok, but once we were on our own, Baby would pucker instead of latch when trying to eat. I was hand expressing the little colostrum I was making but it was such a challenge. Baby became very dehydrated and 3 amazing lovely mamas stepped up with donor milk while I went on a rigorous pumping schedule. My partner, mom, midwife, and doula were all supporting me through it and it's impossible to convey how important that was for such an exhausting process. It's been 9 months and we've been going strong with breastfeeding on demand. I'm so amazed my body has been able to grow a whole human, even outside the womb!”

Welcome to the world, Cole!
Cole was born on November 18th at 1:42pm after a quick labor! Mom planned to get an epidural, but this guy was born less than an hour after getting to the hospital leaving no time to get one! They are over the moon for their not-so-little 8lb 10 oz guy ❤️ Congratulations to this sweet family! 🎉🎉🎉

Have you heard of “curb walking”? As doulas, we recommend this technique to folks from time to time, and have had clients start labor during or immediately afterward. *This technique will not cause you to start labor if your body/baby aren’t ready, but it can help baby get into a better position and move deeper into your pelvis! ⁣labornurse
“❤️If you are nearing your due date and trying to engage your baby a little more deeply into your pelvis (to try and get your cervix to dilate), here is a little trick you can try!⁣
⠀⠀⁣
🧡“Curb walking” is exactly as it sounds! It’s when you walk with one foot up on the curb, and the other on the road/sidewalk. ⁣
⠀⠀⁣
🧡This forces you to have somewhat of an uneven gait, and you’ll notice a larger shift in your body weight as you take each step.⁣
⠀⠀⁣
🧡You might even notice that one side is a little more uncomfortable to walk on than the other, and that’s ok! You’ll want to continue to switch sides, and obviously stop to take breaks, or if you begin labor!⁣
⠀⠀⁣
🧡As your body weight and your baby moves side to side, this can help open up a little more space in your pelvis to create room for baby to turn slightly and move down….on your CERVIX! Whoop! ⁣

💛Curb walking works similarly to deep lunges, squats, and doing figure-eights on your yoga ball! Anything to shift baby around and around can help to engage baby further down!⁣”
