National parks are being gutted, and now there's a PAC fighting back.

In the last 18 months, the Trump administration has fired 1,000 full-time park staff, caused $12 billion in damage to park assets, pursued plans to sell off park units and privatize operations at others, and proposed slashing the Park Service budget by one-third.

Congress has done nothing to stop him.

Parks PAC is the first-ever political action committee created solely for the purpose of defending national parks. It hopes to help flip the House this November by spending on competitive races where incumbents have voted to defund the National Park Service, and reduce its staffing.

Jack Bergman has not been a defender of our parks. Voters in MI-01 deserve to know that. He should take note.

Your electric bill goes up. Wall Street cashes in. That's not a coincidence.

BlackRock and Blackstone, two of the largest private equity firms on the planet, have been on a buying spree of American electric utilities. The fuel driving that spree? Data centers. You know, the ones eating up land, water, and power across the United States.

Here's the model --> Buy the utility that supplies the power, build or finance the data centers that consume it, and charge ratepayers for all of it, with a guaranteed rate of return and far less public oversight than a publicly traded company faces.

BlackRock has advertised 15 to 20 percent returns to its clients off infrastructure that Americans depend on for basic survival. They celebrate it.

A study from 2026 found that electricity costs could rise between 6 and 29 percent nationally by 2030, with some states facing spikes as high as 57 percent, due to data center expansion.

This is happening right now, and is connected to everything we're already fighting; the data center push in Garfield Township, the Flock surveillance network, the erosion of public infrastructure for private profit.

Working people should not be subsidizing Big Tech and, by extension, the private equity firms that own it.

If we don't understand how fascism rose before, we cannot see how it rises now.

Yale historian Timothy Snyder has launched a new course, "Hi**er and Stalin Today," and it's available for free online.

Snyder is one of the most important voices alive on the history of authoritarianism, tyranny, and how democratic societies collapse. If you've read "On Tyranny" or "Bloodlands," you know what he brings to this. If you haven't, this is a powerful place to start.

His framing for the course is worth sitting with:

"When we choose not to know what has happened before, we are also choosing not to influence what will happen after. If we don't care about history, we find ourselves in an eternal present, denied any sort of imagination about the future, and nurtured on lies about a past in which we were innocent."

That is precisely where authoritarian movements want us... rootless, ahistorical, and unable to name what we're seeing.

This course is Snyder's answer to that. And right now, understanding the mechanics of how this has happened before is not an academic exercise. It's an imperative.

The Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation has launched the Holly T. Bird Clean Water Endowment. A permanent fund dedicated to carrying her legacy forward through water stewardship, advocacy, education, and legal efforts that protect our local streams, rivers, lakes, and watersheds.

With priority given to Indigenous-led efforts, this endowment reflects exactly the values Holly lived and worked by.

Project 2025 called for eliminating Head Start entirely. The Trump administration is now doing it piece by piece, and you have until October 6 to say something about it.

Head Start has served America's children for 60 years. Not just childcare, but health screenings, mental health support, developmental care, nutrition, and a lifeline for families with nowhere else to turn.

1,600 programs. Nearly 1 million kids.

The administration's proposed overhaul guts the standards that make Head Start what it is. Teacher-to-child ratios. Health screenings. Bilingual support. Protections for homeless families. Bus monitors. Mental health consultations. Parent committees. All gone or gutted and replaced with a shrug toward whatever states allow.

The Trump administration calls it "flexibility". Providers and actual experts call it dismantling.

🚨 The public comment period is open right now, and it closes October 6. Federal agencies are required to read and respond to public comments. This is not performative. A flood of comments from real people about real impacts on real kids in their communities matters.

You don't need to be an expert. You don't need to write an essay. Just say who you are, why Head Start matters to you, and what you stand to lose.

Yesterday, Garfield Township passed a one-year moratorium on data centers and cryptocurrency mining facilities. Not only a win for the region, but a testament to community power.

This victory belongs to all of YOU who showed up to planning commission meetings, board meetings, and through public comment and emails.

Township Supervisor Joe McManus said it himself, residents "came out in great numbers" and made the community's will impossible to ignore.

When, nationwide, institutions are failing us from the top down, communities are organizing from the bottom up and changing the outcome, without waiting for permission from anyone.

The moratorium gives the township up to 18 months to update its zoning ordinance and establish regulations that actually reflect the scale, impact, and community concerns around data center development. Water usage. Energy demands. Noise. Infrastructure problems. Economic strain. Surveillance economy.

Now we need to ensure that it gets the scrutiny it deserves before a single project moves forward.

Township Supervisor McManus also noted that communities that issued hasty moratoriums are losing in court. From what we've seen, Garfield did this the right way by building a legally defensible process from the ground up before acting on it. This is a model other Michigan communities can follow.

Organizing works!

People with different politics, different backgrounds, and different reasons for caring about their community found common ground, and won. Not because a politician handed them a victory, but because they showed up, spoke out, and refused to be ignored.
