The IRS has a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Locator Tool available at their website that taxpayers can use to find sources of free help in preparing their tax returns. The VITA Program is targeted for taxpayers earning up to $57,000, physically/mentally disabled taxpayers, and taxpayers possessing limited English language skills.

Visit irs.gov, then key in VITA into the search box and hit enter. When the VITA page appears, click on the blue action button (box) labeled VITA Locator and press the enter key on your keyboard.

The web application will load. Type in your zip code and the number of miles you are willing to drive for help. The application will list every office within that radius that provides free tax assistance. Left-click on the office to pull up their site information. Office hours, appointment phone number, email address, location, and other information, You may call our office for help if you run into difficulties.

Travis Credit Union is offering this under the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. It is not meant for complex returns, so if you are heavily invested in the stock market, real estate, or you have complex tax situations, this is not for you. Please seek the services of a CPA or Tax Lawyer. IRS Pub 3678-B is a one-page document that describes the returns the program covers.

We have submitted a request to the Wing to reschedule the 2025 Retiree Appreciation Day Event that was canceled due to the budget impasse in October. We are looking to hold it on 16 May 2026. We have the Travis Aviation Museum reserved for the event.

If approved, it will cover 2025-2026. We will keep you posted as event planning unfolds. We are avoiding future fall events because of continuing budget battles. We will try to schedule these in the Spring after the rain stops.

Due to staffing shortages caused by emergent situations, we've moved the closure date of the McClellan Park RAO up to 15 December 2025. Our office will be relocating McClellan's files, equipment, and supplies to our office on the 15th. Military retirees, their spouses, and self-sponsored SBP annuitants needing assistance with issues should call our office or the Beale AFB RAO for assistance beginning 16 December 2025.

Flyers will be posted on the door of the vacant McClellan RAO office and at the McClellan Commissary and David Grant Outpatient Clinic to notify retirees in the Sacramento area of the change. We've already informed the Air Force Retiree Services Section at Randolph about the closure.

For retirees in the Travis area. We need your support. Our office is down to five volunteers. We don't want to beat a dead horse, but the only way this program stays alive is if we get enough retirees to step up to the plate to volunteer. We only need three to six hours of your time a week. If you're computer literate, like helping people, and have a great sense of curiosity and initiative, that's golden. Please call us. We can use the help.

We regret to inform you that the McClellan Park Satellite Retiree Activities Office will cease operations on 2 January 2026. The decision was made because we were unable to attract enough volunteers to keep the office open.

Military retiree families living in the Sacramento area will need to visit or call the Travis or Beale Retiree Activities Offices for assistance. The Travis Retiree Activities Office may be reached at 707-424-3904/3905 or emailed at [email protected] if you have questions.

08/09/2025

Please call the Travis Retiree Activities Office if you would be interested in attending brown bag lunch seminars covering topics affecting you in retirement. What subjects would you like to see covered?

If there's enough interest, we will approach the 60th FSS to see if we can secure the use of one of their training rooms. We have posted instructional videos on this page in the past, but you need a Facebook account to access them. Please call 707-424-3904/3905 with your input or email it to [email protected].
