Gilchrist County Fire Rescue is sharing this important message from the Florida Forest Service.
Due to today's weather conditions, including strong gusty winds, the Florida Forest Service is not issuing burn authorizations in Gilchrist County. These conditions can cause fires to spread rapidly and become unpredictable.
Even if you are not required to have a burn authorization, Gilchrist County Fire Rescue strongly recommends postponing any outdoor burning until winds have subsided and conditions improve.
A small fire can quickly become a dangerous wildfire when winds are strong.
🚒 Please help protect our community by:
• Avoiding outdoor burning today.
• Never leaving a fire unattended.
• Having a water source readily available if conducting any permitted burning when conditions improve.
• Reporting any uncontrolled fires immediately by calling 911.
Please stay safe and help reduce the risk of wildfires in Gilchrist County.

🔥NO BURNING🔥
NO BURN AUTHORIZATIONS TODAY, IN
ALACHUA, GILCHRIST, LEVY, MARION AND PUTNAM COUNTIES

Today's predicted unfavorable weather conditions include strong gusting winds which can lead to rapid fire spread and high dispersions which can lead to erratic fire behavior. These weather conditions may make fire suppression challenging. Therefore, the Florida Forest Service - Waccasassa Forestry Center will not issue any outdoor burn authorizations today, Tuesday, July 21, 2026, in Alachua, Gilchrist, Levy, Marion or Putnam counties.

Please avoid any outdoor burning activities until conditions improve.
