Duncan Harrison for Trenton City Council

Duncan Harrison for Trenton City Council Duncan Harrison Jr., is working with residents to build great neighborhoods. Great neighborhoods make great cities and great cities make a great Nation!

We need to elect men and women to City Hall who will read the fine print, stand up, and speak out. I will always stand up when Trenton is dealt a bad hand.

Another successful day of talking to voters, this time in the North Ward. I also had to stop by Vincent's for some ice cream. If you haven't had any, I recommend you stop by. They are at the corner of Olden and Pennsylvania.

The residency rules we have on the books are crucial to building and retaining a middle class. The last thing City Hall should be doing is undoing policies that have proven to be successful. That is why I am encouraging City Council to vote NO on Ordinance 14-12 and force the administration to go back to the drawing board. If you want to work for City government then you should have to live in the City of Trenton.

The condition of streets in the City of Trenton demand immediate action. The Department of Public Works needs to identify those streets in most disrepair, present a plan of action for repair, and inform residents of that timeline. The street in these images is the intersection of MLK & Southard. Taxpayers in this City deserve better!

Campaign capsules for Trenton mayoral and council races

The Trenton Times covered our campaign's call for the Trenton Board of Education and School Development Authority to put together a plan that ensures local businesses get a piece of school construction funds for the eventual construction of a new high school for the City of Trenton. This project is expected to cost over $100 million. Trenton has a unemployment rate just under 10 percent, so we need to make use of ANY opportunity that creates jobs!

After the presentation from the School Development Authority, the board voted unanimously to move forward with constructing a new high school. This is the first step of many and we encourage the community to stay involved.

Let's not allow the State to come in and build a new high school without any Trentonians and local businesses on the job. There have been too many construction projects that have started and finished in this City with little to no local labor used. Our community needs to be prepared to stand united so that local businesses and minority contractors receive a share of school construction dollars. We should use Trentonians to rebuild Trenton, whenever the opportunity presents itself. - Duncan

Facebook Family, I have to share this story because it is weighing on my heart. Earlier today, I visited a family in the City of Trenton that is experiencing true hardship. I was joined by the President of TCCA. This is a family of eight; six kids a mother and a father. Their apartment heating system has been acting up for the whole winter; and has been completely off for the past week. They have been forced to use space heaters to keep warm. They reached out to the Department of Community Affairs and the City's Inspection department numerous times about the heat and other violations in their apartment. The property owner refuses to bring the property up to code. In addition to the heat not working, the windows in apartment do not lock, the ceilings leak, there are holes in the walls where mice roam, and there are serious electrical problems. For the month of January the property owner refused to accept rent and then filed an eviction notice. The eviction notice is for non-payment, even though the tenant has attempted to pay rent. Then the owner offers the tenant money to move out, not because the property is unfit for human living, but because he is fed up with the family reporting the apartment's code violations. Again, I visited the apartment and saw these issues for myself. No one should be forced to live like this! I had to share this story because the struggle is very real in our City. I have been working the phones to find a resolution to this matter!

New Jersey to rebuild decaying Trenton Central High School

The condition of Trenton Central High School made national news earlier tonight. The decision, by the State, to build a new high school for the city, is the DIRECT result of community activism on the part of parents, residents, and legislators who decided that our children deserved better. The message is clear; Keep Fighting for Trenton!

Gov. Christie tells Assemblyman Gusciora Trenton is getting a new high school; SDA confirms

This is the kind of news the City of Trenton needed to hear! Our students have always deserved better and it looks like the State finally understands that and intends on delivering the City a new high school. This is the time for the community to be vigilant to ensure there are NO roadblocks.

Today our nation celebrates the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I am reminded of his words: "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy". As we reflect on his life and service I would ask all Trentonians to ask themselves what steps "you" can take, here in our City, to make Dr. King's dream a reality. We can not, in good conscience, ask our leaders to carry the burden of progress on their own. We must all do our part, thereby lightening the burden for everyone involved, and shortening the road to progress. (Photo: Martin King Sr., Martin King Jr., & Martin King III)

Although our nation celebrates Dr. King's birthday on the 3rd Monday in January, his birthday actually is on January 15. Today would have been Dr. King's 85th birthday. Happy Birthday Dr. King!
