Honored to have been invited by the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office to the Senior Fraud Prevention Conference. Good to see so many seniors come out and pack the room at the YMCA Senior Community Center in Piscataway yesterday.

It was an incredibly informative event to educate the older adults to protect themselves from becoming victims to fraud, preventing future internet scams, identity thefts, Medicare/Medicaid scams and much more. The event was a collaboration between the Middlesex County Offices of Aging & Disabled Services, Prosecutor, Consumer Affairs, Surrogate, and Weights and Measures and the Piscataway Senior Center.

Secretary Fisher today encouraged organizations to help provide nutritious meals to children during the summer months through the Department’s Summer Food Service Program. The Summer Food Program began in 1976 as an outgrowth of the National School Lunch Program. The Summer Food Service Program is designed to reach those who are age 18 or younger in economically disadvantaged areas. It also is open to people over 18 who have intellectual, developmental, or physical disabilities and who participate in public or nonprofit private programs established for individuals with disabilities. As the COVID extra benefits come to an end this month, Governor Murphy signed a new law increasing NJ’s monthly SNAP benefits to $95. This change will go into effect on March 1, meaning any SNAP household eligible for a benefit lower than $95 will receive an additional state supplement to bring them to $95. This change will make a huge difference for households that would have otherwise received the $23 federal minimum benefit as of March.

Team had the pleasure to see the work in action of another amazing Non-Profit partner leading an even greater mission. Arm In Arm's service to community started over 2 decades ago, their services include supporting their 4,000 families through their food pantries while also supporting 600 at-risk families to prevent or end homelessness. They also offer on-the-job training and job search mentoring. Their name Arm In Arm was adopted in 2016 to reflect the positive partnership they have with their community and the collaborative spirit with which Arm In Arm supports their neighbors in need.

Meals on Wheels of Ocean County, another grantee doing incredible work to combat food insecurity amongst the 60+ community. Grant funds allow the organization to provide much needed services daily. 900 meals prepared on-site are delivered daily which includes safety check of the seniors; weekly workshops at local libraries and Community Cafes provide an interactive space for seniors to socialize and participate in various activities. 6000 Emergency meal boxes with a total of 30,000 meals were delivered during the onset of the pandemic.
