Troy Youth Assistance Recognizes 2021 Scholarship Recipients

The Troy Youth Assistance Youth Recognition program was significantly different this year. It focused on individual high school students and offered a financial award, a “Boost Grant.” TYA wanted to help students who had set goals for success, made some progress toward those goals, and needed a bit of financial help that may not be available through other sources. Troy Youth Assistance felt that with all of the economic and social challenges this past year, it would be a good time for the organization to put some financial assistance into our future community leaders.

The Committee looked for those students who “started from behind” because of experiences such as: family tragedy, illness, previous academically poor results, court mandated changes in custody resulting in change of residence, parenting responsibilities that required a leave of absence, or school insubordination.

The 2021 Youth Recognition program rewarded students who have forged a path to progress as a positive response to court or police intervention. The student nominators gave a recap of why a student’s goals and progress are important to the individual or the community as well as why a Boost Grant would be appropriate. The nominee had to answer a handful of questions as well as prepare a detailed request for funding.

The grants were given according to perceived need and benefit. The winners of the 2021 Troy Youth Assistance Youth Recognition Grants are:

Cole Bennett, Troy High; Paul Fisette, Michigan Youth Challenge Academy; Casey Gabriel, Troy College & Career High School; Joseph Grieme, Troy High School; Chlaudio Grishaj, Troy College & Career High School; Jada Johnson, Troy College & Career High School; and Paije Ruff, Troy College & Career High School.

Welcome to the Oakland County Health Division | Coronavirus Disease 2019

The health and safety of our families, volunteers and community is our highest priority. During this time, the Troy Youth Assistance office on Livernois Rd is closed and our community events are suspended. However, our caseworker is available remotely and will continue to support families and provide resources and services.

The Oakland County Health Division has released a plethora of supportive information for the community on the impact of the health crisis. There are tool kits and prevention resources available along with information for parents and caregivers on how to talk with children and teens about infectious disease outbreaks and how to manage anxiety and take care of your mental health during this difficult time. Be sure to check out their website.

Hello ONE Troy!

It’s time to nominate that special teacher who makes a difference in the lives of countless students. As we did last year, the process this year is streamlined to make it easier and more meaningful for those helping to nominate.
You will notice that the application itself is shorter and really centers on what matters in the classroom and beyond. There are just three open ended questions and then the statements of support. We have also included a few ideas to get those statements of support started. The best entries include heartfelt words from parents, students and colleagues!

IMPORTANT: Parents, students and colleagues: If you need ANY help with any portion of this nomination, please ask your school principal. Principals are excited to be a part of this process and are happy to help coordinate statements, find information or provide any other assistance you may need. Unfortunately, incomplete nominations CANNOT be considered by the committee, so please make sure all questions are answered and there is a letter of support from a parent, a student/former student and a colleague.

We have so many fabulous teachers in the Troy School District—please take the time to nominate one or more for our 2017-18 TSD Outstanding Teacher Award. Tell us about a special teacher who goes above and beyond for our students. Sing the praises of that unsung hero working in your building. Take the time to recognize a colleague or mentor who does so much for those around us.

An overall winner is chosen but we also recognize three winners (one from elementary, middle and high school levels) who will be sent to Oakland County to be recognized in the county’s outstanding teacher program. As in past years, the overall winner will receive a one-year lease on a vehicle through the generosity of the Suburban Collection. NEW this year: the other two outstanding winners will receive $500, thanks to the support of the Troy Foundation for Educational Excellence.

The application with guideline/rules are attached for your convenience and will also be posted on the district website.

Deadline this year is Thursday, February 1, 2018—remember, all entries are emailed in to [email protected], and should include “Teacher of the Year Nomination” in the subject line.
