Station 4 was dispatched to a commercial fire alarm Sunday at 11:22am. Engine 4 arrived three minutes later reporting fire through the roof. The incident was upgraded to a box alarm, bringing Station 1 to the scene. Every structure fire in Troy is a two station response. As the incident progressed it was upgraded to a 2nd alarm which brought Station 5 & Ladder 3. Overall we had over 50 firefighters on scene and there were no injuries. The last unit cleared at 8:00pm.

This horrific event is burned into many of our memories.
It's easy to say "never forget", however we're at a point where this event is merely history for the newer generations. Something they might read about in school. It's our job to not only teach this generation about the events on that day, but to teach them about the following days, a time when Americans were fully united. That is how 9/11 will never be forgotten.

This month all of our firefighters trained at OCC’s Combined Regional Emergency Services Training (CREST) Center. The CREST site offers an experience where fireground scenarios are simulated in a 5 story burn tower. Firefighters worked on skills such as search and rescue, pump operations, communications, ladders, ventilation and fire attack. Scenarios can be repeated in a controlled setting so firefighters can work through them until their knowledge and skills are mastered. This video is a behind the scenes look of the hard work put in at these trainings so that we are prepared if you ever need us. #TFDTraining

Fire Stations 1, 3, and 4 had a busy few days this week. They responded to three structure fires, one in a home, one in a commercial building, and one in a hotel. We are happy to report there were no injuries in any of these fires. All of the fires were quickly extinguished and contained to the area of origin. A great job was done by all of our members. Please take time this weekend to test your home’s smoke alarms and make sure you are prepared in the event of a fire. #SmokeAlarmsSaveLives

In the early morning hours Station 3 was dispatched to an activated fire alarm in a commercial building. The first arriving unit had smoke showing in the building, and upgraded to a box alarm. This brought Station 4 the scene. Firefighters made entry and located a working fire on the first floor. Crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire. A search of the building was also completed to confirm there were no occupants inside. There were no reported injuries or fatalities. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. A great job by all of the Firefighters that were working hard this cold morning!

With around 160 members Troy has the largest force of Volunteer Firefighters in the state. At the Belle Tire fire we had E4, L4, R4, E3, L3, AT3, L1 and over 40 volunteers on scene. That type of manpower is unheard of in most communities.

Have you ever thought about what you can do for your community?

"The only part of being a volunteer firefighter that's voluntary is the day you decide to join the fire department and the day you decide to quit. Everything in-between is your commitment to serve the Troy community."

Station 4, Station 3, and Ladder 1 responded to Belle Tire last night after Troy PD drove by and spotted the building with fire thru the roof at 19:40. Crews initially made entry to a second floor storage area, but due to the high heat, low visibility, and tire stacks crews exited the structure and went defensive. Later an excavator was brought in (operated by a member of Station 4) to remove the side of the building so the master streams could reach the fire. The last truck cleared about 02:30.

On Friday Station 4 & Station 1 were dispatched to a reported structure fire. Upon arrival crews found smoke and fire coming from a stack on the roof. The issue was traced to a Burn Off Oven that had malfunctioned. Due to concerns for an oxygen limited fire inside the unit, crews slowly introduced water using a garden hose to extinguish the fire in the stack. A larger handline was then used to put out the remaining fire inside the unit.

General information

Troy Fire Department History The Troy Fire Department was organized in 1940 by a group of businessmen and concerned citizens in what was known as Big Beaver, a small "Village" located at Big Beaver and Rochester Road. This group convinced the Township Board that a fire department was needed as well as a fire truck and other equipment (which were delivered March 1940). Prior to that, fire protection was supplied by the Clawson Fire Department. The Fire Department had 19 founding members and operated out of a "Ford" dealership and garage on Rochester Road, south of Big Beaver. In the mid-40's, a second fire fighting group was authorized in the area of Square Lake and Livernois at "Troy Corners." Over the last 50 years, the Fire Department has grown to 6 fire stations strategically located throughout the City. The Fire Department now has over 180 Volunteer Fire Fighters and 14 career employees. In 1940, Troy's first fire apparatus was a 1940 American LaFrance. Today, the fire department operates 9 class 'A' pumpers, 3 ladder trucks, 3 ladder pumpers, a 3 piece special rescue/hazardous material unit, 2 mobile air compressors, one grass fire truck, one reserve pumper, one training pumper, one Mobile Command Vehicle, and 16 staff vehicles. Did You Know ... Troy has the largest combination fire department in Michigan. Troy has an ISO (Insurance Services Office) rating of 3. Less than 3% of communities nation-wide have rating of 3 or higher. Troy has the largest fire department in Oakland County.
