One of the things I’ve learned during my time on Town of Truckee Town Council is that local government touches our daily lives more than we often realize. From roads and trails to housing, emergency preparedness, parks, and sustainability, the decisions made locally have a direct impact on our community. That’s why public participation matters so much. Truckee is strongest when residents stay engaged and involved. Attend a meeting or send in a public comment to one of our many local agencies. Our next Town Council meeting is August 11th. Housing continues to be one of Town of Truckee most important challenges and the Town Council’s top priority. In the last 6 years, the Town has developed and deployed 7 unique workforce housing programs. This has secured entitlements for hundreds of deed-restricted workforce housing units. We continue to work on policies and programs designed to help local workers live where they work.

We are fortunate to have partners doing great work like Tahoe Truckee Community Fndtn Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation and their Achievable Housing For All initiative and the Truckee Tahoe Workforce Housing Agency (TTWHA) Agency.

Housing workers is a climate benefit as more people living where they work reduces GHG emissions.

One of my favorite summer traditions is attending Community Night at the Lake Tahoe Dance Festival with my friend Lynette.

Every year, I’m reminded that world-class art doesn’t just belong in big cities—it belongs here, too. Watching extraordinary dancers perform on the shores of Lake Tahoe is a powerful reminder that the arts enrich our community, inspire creativity, and bring people together. The festival features artists from some of the nation’s premier dancers while making professional dance accessible to our community.

This year’s evening ended with a spectacular Tahoe sunset, creating the perfect backdrop for photos with some of the dancers. It was one of those magical moments where nature and art came together.

Thank you to the Lake Tahoe Dance Collective, the artists, volunteers, and everyone who makes this incredible festival possible. 💙🌅🩰

Today I joined fellow Town Council members, Town of Truckee staff and Visit Truckee-Tahoe for a private tour of the Museum of Truckee History. Run by passionate volunteers (seen in the photos) and supported by donations, the museum brings Truckee’s past to life in a fun and engaging way - complete with touchscreens!

From the railroad and the ice industry to skiing, the Olympics, and the colorful characters who shaped our town, it’s an engaging look at how Truckee became the community we know and love today.

The best part? They’re now offering private group tours! Gather some friends, coworkers, or your favorite club and discover Truckee from a whole new perspective.

A huge thank you to the incredible volunteers who keep Truckee’s history alive, one story at a time.

I highly recommend a visit. You’ll leave with a deeper appreciation for this amazing place we call home. 🏠 ❤️

I am proud to share that the Town of Truckee was recently recognized by the California Board of Forestry and Fire Protection as a Fire Risk Reduction Community for the SECOND time! This designation reflects years of work by our staff, partner agencies, and community members to strengthen wildfire preparedness and build resilience. In a place where living with wildfire is part of our reality, that recognition means a great deal.

This would not happen without Measure T, the Tahoe Truckee Community Fndtn and their Forest Futures program, The Friends of Truckee Tahoe Airport District’s consistent matching funds, and so many other partner agencies and nonprofits.

It takes a village to reduce the fire risk of a rural mountain community. My deepest gratitude to our small but mighty village!

The meeting featured engaging presentations from Tahoe-Truckee Sanitation Agency (TTSA) and Waste Free Tahoe, followed by a thoughtful solid waste panel discussion with representatives from CLEAN UP THE LAKE, Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal, and the Town of Truckee Keep Truckee Green. Each of these organizations are moving the needle on our regional GHG emissions. You can too!
