Did you know there are a few different ways you can support unaccompanied youth within the Host Home's Program? We are always looking for new hosts within the community! Basic requirements include that hosts are over 21 years of age and are a current resident of Thurston County. If this sounds like you and you are interested in potentially serving as a host for a local unaccompanied youth, please send us a DM to find out more.

For those who are unable to open their home currently, there are lots of other ways to support the Host Home's program and unaccompanied youth in Thurston County.

- Donate resources! Host Homes often has ongoing fundraisers or Amazon wish lists for students, purchase something to support a youth in their journey or donate directly to Host Home's.
- Spread the word! Share our posts and fundraisers on social media and talk to the people in your life about the Host Homes program.
- Show up for youth! In our greater Thurston County area, we can all make a difference for youth by showing up, continuing to learn, and creating a safe and supportive community for unaccompanied youth.

It takes a village to uphold the Host Homes program, and we are grateful for every ounce of your support.

At Host Homes, we deeply believe that all youth deserve to be supported, loved, safe, and housed exactly as they are. 🌈 We also acknowledge the extra challenges that exist for unaccompanied youth that identify underneath the LGBTQIA2S+ umbrella as they navigate community resources.

Host Homes is a national model that was born in Minneapolis by members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community in response to the disproportionate amount of these youth that make up our homeless community and the lack of existing resources. All youth deserve to have access to the support and resources they need to survive, and thrive.

Curious about what resources exist in Thurston County? We have highlighted above some local organizations that provide support for unaccompanied youth under the LGBTQIA2S+ umbrella, including The Trevor Project hotline, Pizza Klatch, Stonewall Youth, and SafePlace shelters.

Pride is more than a celebration, it is a reminder that all people, especially all youth, deserve to be respected, protected, and loved exactly as they are. Our youth deserve the access to the resources they need to survive and succeed! 🌈🖤

What inspires our case managers to do the amazing work that they do for our youth? At Host Homes, we like to touch in on the "why" behind our staff and the experiences that led them to our organization. Our wonderful case manager, Karen, shares that her inspiration for becoming a case manager came from her own experience of having a consistent, encouraging, and nonjudgmental figure during her own high school years. She shared that this experience shapes the work she does today and how she shows up for the youth on her case load, including meeting youth where they are at and helping them to witness their own possibility. D is a student with big dreams and ambitions despite facing homelessness during her highschool years. She shared with her case worker that her current goals while living with her host are to get a "B" in her math class, raise her grade in her English class to a "B", and to resolve a legal issue that she is facing. Let's go D! We are so proud of your spirit and inspired by your perseverance. Help us to cheer D on in her journey!
