We've made some new changes to our orientation events!

Rather than confining attendance to only the newest members of our chapter, we want to welcome existing members wanting to get involved again and just not knowing where to start.

New members can understand how a DSA chapter functions, explore our platform, and learn how to directly participate. Returning members can catch up on what they've missed, our current efforts, and how to plug back in.

Additionally, non-members that may be curious about our organization and seeking more information before deciding to join are invited as well!

*We must clarify—while the intentions of acquiring this equipment may be well-meaning, the very recent history of police brutality taking place at otherwise peaceful protests across the nation cannot be disregarded.

As fellow community members of Twin Falls, Idaho and the surrounding areas, we are absolutely devastated by the horrific and senseless violence that took place here today.

Due to pressure from members of Southern Idaho DSA and other community organizations, Twin Falls PD has withdrawn their request for $88,000 for additional Flock Cameras.

The work does not end here, though.

We will continue to pressure the council to completely end the contract with Flock, and to direct additional funding to more useful and beneficial things for our community.

‼️ The next Twin Falls City Council Meeting is taking place Monday, July 27th.

This meeting is intended to review the Fiscal Budget for the next year with a particularly concerning highlight on, 'community safety.'

The Twin Falls Police Department will claim the utilization of AI surveillance assists in ongoing investigations and ensuring community safety. While this may hold some truth, we maintain that the existing and potential repercussions far outweigh the minimal benefits—this is a predatory and intrusive breach on our rights.

This software raises serious concerns over the infringement of privacy, data collection, abuse of the system, and so much more. With Flock Cameras already installed throughout most of the community, and the city's contract expiring this September, it's crucial to fight back while we have the chance.

We urge you to join us and voice your concerns during the Public Comment Forum. Tell the Twin Falls City Council that we say NO TO MASS SURVEILLANCE in our city.
