The Methow Valley is home to some of the darkest skies in the country—a rare connection to the night, to wildlife, and to each other.

But darkness isn’t guaranteed.

The Methow Dark Sky Coalition, a program of , works to protect our night skies:

💡 Advocating for dark-sky–friendly lighting
🕊️ Sharing migration alerts to protect birds
🌠 Celebrating the night during Dark Sky Week

Because light pollution doesn’t just dim the stars—it disrupts wildlife, migration, and our connection to the natural world.

For 50 years, MVCC has worked to protect what makes the Methow special—from rivers and forests to the skies above.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, looked up, and helped make Methow Dark Sky Week such a success.

From trivia nights and workshops to stargazing and the scavenger hunt, it was incredible to see our community come together to celebrate—and protect—our night skies.

This week is a reminder of what makes the Methow so special:

The Methow Dark Sky Week Scavenger Hunt is ON—all week long!

🌲 Explore the valley in a whole new way

🌃 Learn about the night sky—and how to help protect it

This self-guided, all-ages scavenger hunt is a fun way to connect with the night sky, discover resources to learn more, and visit local businesses, many of which are offering Dark Sky specials all week—from pastries and cocktails to special brews and discounts. And find unique Dark Sky stickers designed by local youth!

🏆 The first 20 people to complete at least 10 items and bring their board to the Winthrop Visitor Center between 3–6 PM win a special Dark Sky prize!

The Methow Valley’s star-filled skies are a treasure worth protecting, not just for stargazers, but also for wildlife, human health, and the rural character that makes this place so special.
