The County of Mendocino and Resource Conservation District of Mendocino County (MCRCD) collaborate to keep Mill Creek Ponds free of invasive freshwater mussels. Invasive Quagga, Zebra, and Golden mussels can cause extensive ecological damage to lakes, ponds, and rivers. MCRCD monitors the Mill Creek Ponds each month to verify there are no signs of the mussels. Public outreach (like this post) spreads the message of so we can all do our part to keep Mill Creek Ponds and our other lakes and rivers mussel free.

Want to beat the heat out on the water? Let's leave golden mussels at home. Despite being as small as a nickel, they can rapidly multiply and impact the environmental stability of our waterways. Keep them out of the Russian River Watershed by properly cleaning your boat, paddleboard, kayak, or canoe after recreating in other places, and by stopping by one of the mussel inspection stations before going out on the water!

🐞🌼🌻🪲 Keep your plants happy without the chemicals—Soldier beetles (pictured here), syrphid flies, and ladybugs and their larvae are all-natural aphid control. Lacewings will go after just about any insect pest. Soldier beetles love flowers and are known pollinators.
