Beware! Know the signs.

THE NASAL INHALER MOST DON’T PAY ATTENTION TO.

WHAT IS BENZEDREX?

Benzedrex is an over the counter product sold at stores like Walmart, Walgreens and CVS. This product contains propylhexedrine, a stimulant decongestant. Misuse can produce amphetamine-like stimulant effects and serious cardiovascular/psychiatric effects.

During my scans I sometimes find this product sold out (picture from this week) or under lock and key. That is very unusual for a nasal product. Everyone who will read this post has walked past this product and been within an arms reach of it.

Furthermore, our young people have easy and open accessibility to this (and many others) so education is key.

Attendees in Tall Cop classes who use this as medicine do speak highly of its effects.

WARNING SIGNS:

1) When the product is taking out of its standard applicator. Meaning the contents on the inside of the plastic is opened and intentionally removed.

2) When someone is using high doses or large amounts

3) When someone is consuming this in non-traditional or non-recommended ways.

PRODUCT PIC IN THE COMMENTS.

Prescription Drug Misuse
Misuse of prescription drugs means taking a medication in a manner or dose other than prescribed. This includes taking someone else’s prescription, even if for a legitimate medical complaint such as pain, or, taking a medication to get high. The three classes of medication most commonly misused are:

Opioids (usually prescribed to treat pain).
Central nervous system depressants (used to treat anxiety and sleep disorders).
Stimulants (most often prescribed to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder).
Patients can take steps to ensure they use prescription medications appropriately by:

Following the directions as explained on the label or by their pharmacist.
Being aware of potential interactions with other drugs, as well as alcohol.
Never stopping or changing a dosing routine without first discussing it with their doctor.
Never using another person’s prescription and never giving one’s prescription medications to others.
Storing prescription drugs safely.
If you have any old prescription drugs, the safest course of action is to remove them from your home altogether. A preferred option is to drop off any unwanted or unused pills, liquids or other medications at a local drug disposal site.

🛑Drugs Aren’t Worth the Risk🛑

Teens today face a lot of pressure, but using drugs is never the answer. Drug use can affect your health, your goals, your relationships, and your future. What may seem like temporary escape can lead to long-term consequences.

Choose activities that build you up, surround yourself with positive influences, and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Real strength comes from making healthy choices and looking out for yourself and your friends.

💙Stay informed. Stay strong. Stay drug-free.
