Statement from the Libertarian Party of Fayette County

The Libertarian Party of Fayette County is closely watching the ongoing legal challenge involving Harry Young Cochran’s place on the ballot.

Let us be clear: while we often disagree with both Republican and Democratic Party leadership on policy, one principle we will always stand firm on is this, ballot access should never be undermined through the weaponization of the courts.

What is happening here is not new to us.

Third-party and independent candidates have faced these same tactics for years. Petitions challenged over minor technicalities. Signatures thrown out. Legal hurdles designed not to ensure fairness, but to keep competition off the ballot. It is a system that protects insiders and shuts out the very people it claims to represent.

We do not have to agree with a candidate’s platform to defend their right to run.

The voters of Fayette County deserve the opportunity to hear from every qualified candidate and make their own decision at the ballot box, not have that choice limited by legal maneuvering and political gamesmanship.

If ballot access can be taken from one candidate today, it can be taken from another tomorrow. That should concern everyone, regardless of party.

We stand firmly against the use of legal challenges as a political weapon and in support of fair, open, and accessible elections for all.

If you’re tired of the constant fighting between political parties, you’re not alone.

Every election cycle seems to bring more mudslinging, more division, and less focus on the people these offices are supposed to serve. Too often the conversation becomes about party loyalty instead of individual liberty, personal responsibility, and limited government.

But politics does not have to be that way.

The Libertarian Party offers a different path. One built on the simple idea that you should have the freedom to live your life without unnecessary interference from government or political insiders.

If you believe individuals matter more than party labels, and if you’re ready for a movement that focuses on freedom instead of fighting, consider getting involved.

Join the Libertarian Party of Fayette County and help build something better for Pennsylvania.

Liberty is not maintained by speeches or elections alone. It is preserved daily by citizens who insist on self-ownership, voluntary cooperation, and restraint upon power.

02/27/2026

Freedom does not demand perfection. It demands responsibility. Authority demands submission and calls it stability.

02/26/2026

A people who believe they cannot govern themselves will always find rulers willing to agree.

02/25/2026

The power to regulate is the power to destroy. Liberty survives only where limits are enforced against authority itself.
