Chosen Families Adopted & Foster Families Support Group

Chosen Families Adopted & Foster Families Support Group Chosen Families was founded by Michelle Schultze; a mom of 4 through private, international & foster adoptions. Our purpose: build community & resources

Our families experience unique situations biological families don't. Chosen Families' purpose is to share our cumulative resources & experiences as we encourage and celebrate our beautiful children; helping them to grow in a positive way while acknowledging "their story", their emotional/physical/psychological needs and supporting each other as parents who have accepted these blessings and struggles. Michelle Schultze is the mom of four children through private, international and foster care adoptions. Her children came home at the ages of newborn (private adoption) 9 months (international adoption from China) 3 yrs and 11yrs old (siblings from foster care.) The newborn and 11 yr old are now both close to turning 21. The nine month old is now 16 yrs old and, he 3 yr old is now 12 yrs.

Mission: Mission: To celebrate our families while offering support and resources for parents in order to help our children grow with a healthy self image and heal from loss and/or abuse.

Many who are being called to adopt, are unsure of when THEY are going to be ready for this calling. Not to sound rude, but if God has put this on your heart, He has already determined the time, the child or children He will send you and how to prepare you for it.

Watch Him work...miraculously...to send others into your path to guide and encourage you, obsticles to slow your pace to time it perfectly with the time your child will be ready for you, other challenges removed that goes beyond explanation.

This journey is exciting, frustrating, filled with anticipation, disappointments and LOVE...the love for your new child and the deeper understanding of God's love for you.

Take a deep breath. Trust. Move forward.

Proverbs 3:5-6

01/02/2017

This year, I pray that...

* You forgive yourself for past mistakes or failures

* Forgiveness for others brings healing and safe boundaries for you

* You anticipate the blessings God has in store for this year

* You are surrounded with people who truly love you and make time for you rather than make excuses

*For you to be filled with God's love and break any chains that are binding you.

*For those who don't know or choose to not believe in God to be overcome with the loving Holy Spirit.

* For money to be a blessing but not an idol

* For health (mental and physical) to be at its best

* For friends to be true, fake ones/users to be revealed and removed from your inner circle, and enemies not make you lose sleep

* For those wanting a relationship to be blessed with the right one (one who loves the Lord and will love them properly)

*For those who complain about abusive or neglectful relationships (parent/child, dating, etc.) to quit making excuses for their own behavior because of it, that of the other person and finally stand strong

And last, but certainly not least...

* To know your true worth in God's eyes and Kingdom

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In ALL YOUR WAYS acknowledge Him and He will direct your path." Proverbs 3:5-6

HAPPY 2017, EVERYONE.

I was recently contacted by (foster care adopted) parents who were trying to build their children's history with pictures.

This is, unfortunately, a common challenge. Children come with little or no documentation of their life before coming home to their forever families. While foster care tells foster families they are supposed to take photos in order to help the children, this often doesn't happen. While there could be many reasons, it doesn't change the fact there will be gaps in their lives.

One possible way to recover some memories is to contact the former schools your child attended (assuming they are school aged.) By providing proof of your adoption and sharing what you are trying to do and why, the teachers are typically more than happy to share photos they may have taken or the school may be able to share a thumbnail size picture they have in your child's file.

When I tracked down photos for my son, Nathan, in this manner the staff from his schools were thrilled to hear he had been adopted and were eager to hear how he was now doing, as well as to share their memories with him.

I hope this will be helpful for those trying to help their child hold onto good memories.

What a great time of bonding through our drumming circle. Drumming circles are used in various therapy settings to help release aggression, encourage conversation with drums and to build binds through listening to others. Our facilitator, Kimberly Stephenson, did an amazing job!

Dr. John Gibson (Heritage Pediatrics) discussed medications often prescribed for ADD, ADHD and Depression. This was followed by q & a time.

Laurie Rivas shared about Living Young Essential Oils and let us experience the Lavendar and Pepermint oils. Wow! Can't wait to start using them!

Thank you to everyone who led thie evening, our vokunteers and those who attended. What a blessed evening!

School will be underway soon which means it's time to help our teachers understand the unique needs of foster/foster to adopt children with behavior situations.
Most teachers are compassionate and will give "another chance" to one of our kids, feeling sorry for them and what they've been through. In reality this is DETRIMENTAL to our kids rather than beneficial! The children see this as weak and that they are able yo manipulate the adult; thus the adult will not be able to protect them when they need it. (Nancy Thomas- resource)
Nancy Thomas' website (Families by Design) has a letter to teachers, as well as bs drivers, addressing these situations and our family dynamics and more! Print it out and provide it to every teacher, administrator and counselor your child will come in contact with this year.

Be blessed, everyone!

Many parents tell us that after a long day of dealing with their RAD child’s behaviors, they come to our site and read the articles. Some seek hope and some just need to know they are not alone in their daily struggle. We hope to have made these articles even easier for you to find and enjoy. See…

In loving memory of my wonderful husband, Lee Jay Schultze. He was the most tender-hearted, kind, forgiving, loving man I have ever met. We lost him to a heart attack this evening. I cannot believe you won't be with us anymore. While my heart is breaking, I will forever love you, Babe. Thank you for almost 20 years of love and building a family together. You will be kept alive in our hearts and in our actions. Rest in the presence of our Lord, my sweetheart. I will see you again.
