Councilmember Stan Flemming was elected to the Pierce County Council in November 2010. Before assuming this position, he served as a member of the Washington State House of Representatives representing the 28th Legislative District and as the founding mayor, mayor pro tem and councilmember for the City of University Place. In addition to his elected positions, he has served our community and state

in a number of appointed positions that include president of the county telecommunications commission, chairman of the Board of The Evergreen State College, and president of Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences and Medical School. In 1995, he was one of two finalists considered by the Clinton Administration for surgeon general of the United States.
