The Charleston County Housing and Neighborhood Revitalization office has released the Microbusiness Pandemic Relief Program funded by American Rescue Act of 2021.
What does this mean? This means your business can apply for a one-time relief grant UP TO $25,000 in COVID-19 Pandemic Relief Funds by applying by May 6, 2022. A copy of your 2019 Federal Tax Return and 2020 or 2021 Federal Tax Return or CPA prepared financial statement must be uploaded. You must be able to provide documentation that the business suffered due to COVID-19.
Eligible Applicants Include:
-Businesses with a primary physical location within Charleston County
-For-profit businesses that were in operation prior to March 16, 2019
-Businesses with 10 or fewer employees and annual revenue under $500,000 dollars
-Businesses who have not received any previous Pandemic relief assistance ex: funding from the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP)
-Businesses must remain located in the county and not sell the business for at least one year after receipt of grant funds

Did you know that golf was a totally different sport before Dr. George Grant came along?
Although he never capitalized on his invention, Dr. Grant was definitely the first person to patent the golf tee.
Instead, he had prototypes made for his own personal use and handed them out to family and friends.

Granville Tailer Woods
April 23, 1856 - January 30, 1910
Referred to by some as the "Black Edison"
Mr. Woods is on this list twice.
He was granted a patent for the Telephone Transmitter in 1884 and the Automatic Cut-off Switch in 1889. However, over the course of his lifetime Mr. Woods held more than 50 patents in the U.S. One of his notable inventions was a device he called the Synchronous Multiplex Railway Telegraph, a variation of induction telegraph which relied on ambient static electricity from existing telegraph lines to send messages between train stations and moving trains.
His work assured a safer and better public transportation system for the cities of the United States.
He was also the first African American mechanical and electrical engineer after the Civil War.
