The United States Army Reserve Deployment Support Command was honored to participate in Birmingham Legion FC Stars and Stripes Night at Protective Stadium. The event celebrated patriotism, military service, and community partnership. The commands very own Maj, Carl Jackson, G8 Chief Financial Officer, was the service member of honor for the match that performed the honorable coin toss for the event.

During the evening, Legion FC debuted their commemorative “Stars Fell” kit, inspired by Alabama’s historic legacy and designed to honor the nation’s service members. The atmosphere included a flyover during the national anthem, a halftime shootout tribute to first responders and veterans, and a fireworks display following the match.

Soldiers from the Deployment Support Command and the Alabama National Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 169th Aviation Regiment (1-169th AVN) were recognized on the field alongside members of local law enforcement, and emergency responders. Their presence symbolized the continued partnership between the military and the Birmingham community.

The Deployment Support Command extends its gratitude to Birmingham Legion FC for hosting this special occasion and for their continued support of service members and their families.

Today, we commemorate Juneteenth. June 19, 1865, the day when Union soldiers, under Major General Gordon Granger, arrived in Texas to announce the end of slavery, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This day marks not just a historical milestone but a moment to reflect on the purpose and meaning of freedom.

Our nation’s values, upheld through service and sacrifice, guide our mission every day. Juneteenth stands as a reminder of the enduring commitment to liberty and justice for all Americans. As the Deployment Support Command, we honor the courage of those who fought to make freedom a reality, and we reaffirm our dedication to serve with integrity and loyalty.

To every service member and civilian team supporting this Command, your work ensures that the foundation of our nation’s ideals remains strong. Today and every day, we honor Juneteenth by recommitting to those principles and recognizing that our collective efforts contribute to a future shaped by opportunity, unity, and respect.

On behalf of the Deployment Support Command leadership, thank you for your service. May this Juneteenth be meaningful to you and your families.
