MAJOR NEWS!! The DC Center is moving! This new community center will be a place for multiple LGBTQ+ orgs to come together and serve the community. It’s a game changer. Capital Pride is on the lease with us and Wanda Alston Foundation & Rainbow Families & others we’ll announce later will be there too! It’s really been a cooperative community effort which is amazing! It’s also the reason I’ve been pretty inactive on social media lately - a lot of nights and weekends spent getting to this point! My partner in all of this has been Eddie Mansius - it’s been so incredible having someone to both dream big and buckle down with. We’ve been working on this for 2+years, starting with dreaming and advocacy in the DC LGBTQ+ Budget Coalition. Thank you to Mayor Bowser, Japer Bowles, Mayor's Office of LGBTQ Affairs, and DMPED for your support!
I’m moderating an awesome panel with some of my favorite dc organizers on Thursday! Join us for what I’m sure will be a great conversation!
Posted • Join us for a conversation with some of DC’s most effective organizers as we discuss advocating for change in our communities! We will focus on how to advocate for drug decriminalization and harm reduction. This will be a community conversation and workshop where we will share ideas for conversation starters, community building, and “big asks” for neighbors, Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners and Council Members. Register for the Zoom at tinyurl.com/TheBigAskDC!
Another in the books! Second half of the month was full of time with friends and advocacy on behalf of . So grateful to be able to do this work and be in community with such awesome folks, especially in these continually scary times. No more than ever I’m convinced local community organizing and care is the way forward.
Had a great time at our newest neighborhood spot! Happy opening day, .dc! And thanks for the great food, !
Todays decision is heartbreaking for so many reasons. Abortion access and bodily autonomy should be protected at all costs. There’s so much work ahead but it was energizing to be in community with so many incredible organizers and leaders today. We got this. ✊🏽

IT’S PRIMARY DAY IN DC! If you haven’t voted yet, please vote today! DM me if you have any questions or want recommendations. I know this election season has been a lot but local elections MATTER! We have an opportunity to make real progress. Now go !
Thanks to everyone who has already contributed! I’m still collecting more funds to support folks - 2 who I’m trying to help get into housing. Anything helps!
Posted • Y’all know what to do! Our Thomas Circle family needs our help.
Friends, I’m currently coordinating mutual aid support for neighbors displaced by the encampment eviction at Thomas Circle last week. If you’d like to help, you can support by sending money on Venmo or cashapp! Thanks in advance!
Biked down to check out the new Thursday Farmers Market in Dupont! Thank you and for expanding the market and access to healthy local food in our community. It gave me a chance to pick up some sourdough and kale!
It was great to spend time in community today with so many activists, organizers, and friends. The draft decision was absolutely horrifying. If it stands, abortion access is just the beginning. Let this moment motivate you - we need you in this fight. Also, donate to your local abortion fund like
I've officially resigned and my former position is open. Please feel free to reach out if you're interested in running! I truly loved representing SMD 2F07 and serving as your Commissioner. Thank you for your support!
Today marks 1 year in office as an Commissioner in ANC 2F. It’s been such an honor to serve my community and neighbors in this way. Thank you to everyone that supported my campaign and me as I joined this amazing community of ANCs. A few weeks ago, my wife and I moved out of the neighborhood so unfortunately, I’m so sad to share I’ll be resigning in a couple of weeks. Thank you for this incredible opportunity - I know I’ll find ways to serve again moving forward.
Loved talking to community members about The DC Center and the Reel Affirmations Film Festival starting Thursday! Bonus was seeing so many friends today at Capital Pride !
Thanks to Carnegie Mellon University for featuring me in their Alumni Stories series! I loved talking about my work at The DC Center and ANC 2F and my thoughts on leadership. As I said in the interview, the power is and should always be with the people. Check out the full story here: https://www.cmu.edu/engage/about-us/news/alumni/profile-mohammed.html
Stopped by the Franklin Park reopening a couple weeks ago - the culmination of over 2 years of construction work and more of advocacy and planning. Like many other neighbors, I’m simultaneously glad to have a beautiful refurbished park and very concerned about the former residents of the park that are still experiencing homelessness and may want to come back - I’m still not clear on what reception they’ll get. We need a people-first strategy for ending homelessness. We cannot rely on criminalization - it won’t help.

Saturday was the last training for the DC 2021 Elections Cohort. I can’t express how grateful and reenergized I feel after spending the last 3 weeks with this community of folks who care so deeply about creating positive change for our community. The facilitators and speakers were so knowledgeable, skilled, and real - you don’t often get all 3 in a training like this. Thank you for selecting me for this program and helping me grow as an ANC, advocate, and community member. I’m so glad to be part of the family!

Today I joined 9 other Muslim elected officials in the and Muslim Advocates to call for an apology and real accountability from 7News DC & Democratic Party of Virginia. Giving voice to these anti-Muslim tropes perpetuates Islamophobia and does real harm to our community.
