TRAINING | The cherry blossom - or Sakura - represents a time of renewal and optimism and its blooming has been celebrated for more than 100 years. The planting of cherry trees in Washington, D.C. originated in 1912 as a gift of friendship to the United States from Japan.

Captured here is Firing Party’s upgrade training. Ceremonial Guardsmen remain superbly conditioned to perfect all movements throughout every drill and ceremony.

WOMENS HISTORY MONTH | In 1973, the Department of the Air Force authorized women to serve in the United States Air Force Honor Guard. For the first time in American history -- equal to their male counterparts -- females initially provided critical ceremonial mission support through military funeral honors at Arlington National Cemetery. Eventually, women were authorized to perform in Military District of Washington events to include Joint Service and White House ceremonies. Pictured here are the “First Five” female ceremonial guardsmen (not in order): SrA Margret R. Jones, SrA Madelyn A. Ritz, A1C Teresa M. Brown, A1C Cindi Feldwisch, and A1C Elizabeth K. Root.
