The CAL FIRE / Cameron Park Fire Department Task Force 89, staffed with qualified River and Flood Rescue technicians and Non-Motorized Boat Operators in preparation for the significant rainfall the unit has experienced, took the opportunity between the storms to train with the Bakersfield Fire Department. The BFD’s type two water rescue team is in the greater Sacramento area on a California Governor's Office of Emergency Services due to the elevated threat of water related emergencies. While we hope we don’t have to use our skills, todays joint training better prepares us to work together on a real incident should it occur.

Please welcome Jeff Reyes back to the Amador-El Dorado Unit as our new Assistant Chief of Administration!

Jeff began his firefighting career in 1995 as a firefighter with the U.S Forest Service in the El Dorado National Forest on a Type 2 IA crew. In 1997 he was hired as a seasonal Firefighter I with CDF Amador-El Dorado Unit at Garden Valley Fire Station. During his time as a seasonal, he attended night classes to complete his Fire Science Degree through Sierra College.

In 2001, Jeff promoted to LT Fire Apparatus Engineer at Pilot Hill Station and had the unique opportunity to also work as a 9 month Firefighter I in the Cameron Park and Pioneer Schedule A programs. In 2002 he became a Permanent Fire Apparatus Engineer at Mt. Danaher Fire Station (Camino). As a Permanent Fire Apparatus Engineer, Jeff was able to work the fire season at Camino and then in Battalion 5 through the winter, which provided great experience and training opportunities.

In 2006, Jeff promoted to LT Fire Captain at Amador-El Dorado Unit at Dew Drop Station and in 2007 he became permanent Fire Captain B at Pine Grove Conservation Camp. In 2010 he transferred to Garden Valley Station where he was assigned until he transferred to Amador-El Dorado Training Bureau in 2017.

In 2020, Jeff promoted to Battalion Chief at the CAL FIRE Training Center, FFA Battalion. In 2022, Jeff transferred into the Fire Control Division as the Fire Control Coordinator.

Amador County Sandbag Information

Sandbags Available in Amador & Calaveras counties

▪️ Amador County

Amador County has sandbags and sand available for county residents through the Community Sandbag Program.

The county provides free bags and sand to Amador County residents only, with a suggested (20) bag maximum limit. Free sand and bags are located at the Amador County Airport (Westover Field) parking lot near the County General Services Administration Building in Jackson/Martell (12380 Airport Rd, Jackson). Residents will need to fill their own bags & bring their own shovel.

For more information on the Amador County Community Sandbag Program, contact Amador County Office of Emergency Services, OES Coordinator, Jeff Bellotti at (209) 223-6384.

In addition to the County program, similar sandbag programs are offered to city residents in Ione, Jackson and Sutter Creek.

• Ione: There is a sandbag station open to Ione residents only, located at the Public Works Corp Yard located at 10100 Five Mile Drive in Ione (outside of the gate). (10) bag limit. Bring your own shovel. For more information contact the City of Ione at City Hall at (209) 274-2412.

• Jackson: The sandbag site is open outside of the Public Works Corporation Yard located at 200 Cemetery Lane in Jackson. The site is self-serve. Sand and some bags are available. Bring your own shovel. This site is open to anyone who may need sandbags on hand during the ongoing storms. For more information contact the City of Jackson at City Hall at (209) 223-1646.

• Sutter Creek: For more information contact Sutter Creek City Hall at (209) 267-5647

▪️ Calaveras County

Calaveras County has sandbags and sand available for county residents through the Community Sandbag Program.

Free sand & sandbags (bags in blue drums) are available. You will need to fill the bags yourself & bring your own shovel. Limit of (10) sandbags per resident. Please call Public Works at (209) 754-6401 with any questions regarding the Calaveras County Community Sandbag Program.

• Murphys Fire Station, 37 Jones St., Murphys (Note: prefilled sandbags will be available)

• Copperopolis Fire Department, 370 Main St.

• West Point Volunteer Fire Department, 195 Spink Rd.

• Mokelumne Hill residents — Sand and sandbags are available in the parking lot behind the Mokelumne Hill Fire Station, on Prospect Street. BYOS (Bring Your Own Shovel) and take only what you need. Note: Calaveras Consolidated Fire is working with CalFire - Vallecito Handcrews pre-filling sandbags at various locations. If you don’t see any filled sandbags, please try one of the other designated locations above. As they try to keep up with the demand.

Information regarding sandbags for El Dorado County.

BE PREPARED

El Dorado County OES maintains sandbags on hand for emergency situations, like large scale flooding.

We do not provide sand or bags to homeowners who are experiencing localized problems on their property. If homeowners are experiencing issues with drainage they can purchase sandbags, sand, and wattles at home improvement stores.

El Dorado County OES currently is monitoring the storm and has plans in place to stand up as many sandbag locations as needed, if emergency conditions occur.
