Chambers County remains under a burn ban and with the extreme temperatures and dry weather it doesn't take much for a wildfire to start!

As hot and dry conditions persist, consider the following:

• Always obey local burn bans and outdoor burning restrictions. Wait to conduct any outdoor burning or light campfires until the burn ban has been lifted and weather conditions improve.
• Nine out of 10 wildfires are human caused. When a burn ban is in place, residents should avoid outdoor activities that may cause a spark, including welding, grinding, and using heavy machinery.
• Many areas of Texas are experiencing high temperatures and dry weather. Residents should stay up to date on weather conditions and always use extreme caution when performing outdoor activities even if not under a burn ban.

🚧🛣️ TRAFFIC ALERT: MAJOR IH-10 CLOSURE 🛣️🚧

Dear Chambers County Community,
We want to alert you about a significant traffic disruption that will affect our county. Beginning tomorrow evening at 8 pm, IH-10 will be closed due to a crucial deck repair project. This closure is anticipated to last through the weekend and could cause substantial traffic delays.

Closure Details:
- Start: Friday, August 11, 2023, at 8 pm
- End: Monday, August 14, 2023, at 5 am
- Location: Main lanes of IH-10 at SH 99
- Purpose: Traffic switch to shift both Eastbound and Westbound lanes onto the North half of IH-10 for bridge repairs.

This project is essential to address bridge repairs, particularly after some recent emergency repairs in the past two years. While we understand that this closure might lead to inconvenience, please know that these efforts are aimed at ensuring safer travel for everyone.

We urge all residents to plan your travel accordingly, consider alternative routes if possible, and adjust your schedules to accommodate potential delays.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to enhance the infrastructure and safety of our community. Stay tuned for any updates and please share this information with your friends and family who might be affected by this closure.

Thank you for your patience, and stay safe on the roads.

The Comptroller encourages all taxpayers to support Texas businesses while saving money on tax-free purchases of most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks (sold for less than $100) during the annual Tax-Free weekend. Qualifying items can be purchased tax free from a Texas store or from an online or catalog seller doing business in Texas.

This year’s sales tax holiday begins Friday, Aug. 11, and goes through midnight Sunday, Aug. 13.

The sales tax exemption applies only to qualifying items you buy during the sales tax holiday. Items you buy before or after the sales tax holiday do not qualify for exemption, and there is no tax refund available.

Everyone here at Chambers County ESD #1 want to express our deepest condolences and sympathy to the family and friends of our fallen brother.

Winnie-Stowell Fire/Rescue offers our deepest condolences to the members of the Hankamer Volunteer Fire Department and the family of the fallen. Losing a brother is hard. Even harder in these times where the volunteer spirit is dwindling. Our older members and founders are a valuable asset that can never be replaced. We stand in support of our neighbors and offer any assistance they may need.
