Reducing wildfire risk is something we work on every single day, not just when conditions get scary. Year-round, our crews are out completing rigorous vegetation management work, high-tech equipment inspections, and state-of-the-art system upgrades along our power lines.

May is Wildfire Awareness Month, meaning now is a great time to familiarize yourself with all things wildfire preparedness.

Click the link in the comments below for some helpful resources on what you can do to prepare, and learn more about what we’re doing every day to keep our members and communities safe.

During high wind events, bird nests on power poles pose a fire risk to nests, eggs, and hatchlings, as well as a wildfire risk on the ground. Removing hazardous nests, installing safer structures, and reducing bird-related outages are all part of our broader wildfire mitigation efforts designed to protect lives, property, and the environment.

One of the best things about being a member-owned co-op? The people guiding our company decisions are your fellow members. No outside shareholders here!

This year, five of your fellow members are running for two seats on our Board of Directors, and every Holy Cross Energy member gets to vote for one candidate in each district.

Beginning today, members may vote online via their Smarthub account, or be on the lookout for a hard-copy ballot in the mail over the next few days.

Before you vote, take a few minutes to read our full candidate Q&A in the link in the comments and hear what they’re about.

It’s your co-op, your voice, and your vote!

Thank you for your patience as our crews continue working at the Aspen Airport Business Center. We apologize for the inconvenience these power interruptions may cause. These interruptions are associated with important maintenance and testing of our system and are necessary to ensure continued reliability and safety. This work will continue through Thursday and Friday this week.

For the most up-to-date information on outages, please visit our online outage map at:

🔥Safety guides every decision we make, especially as wildfire risk continues to increase across our region. Protecting our members, employees, and the communities we serve is our highest priority.

During periods of elevated fire danger, we may adjust how certain parts of our electric system operate by enabling Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings, also known as Fire Safety Settings. These settings are an important tool for reducing wildfire risk and protecting our service territory.

Learn more about these settings and why they’re so important as we approach wildfire season. Link in the comments below.

We are aware that some members may have received communications from other electric service providers about a potential Public Safety Power Shutoff event planned for tomorrow, Wednesday, April 22, due to forecast high winds and dry conditions.

HCE does not see the need for such an event and will instead be using our fire settings to minimize fire risk from our system. We place our system on fire settings already on red flag warning days. On these settings, members may see "blinks" in their power for short periods of time.
