How will LEADS affect you?

Please remember ALL Driver License services (including online services) will be unavailable to the public from April 18-25. Examiners will still be able to administer road skills tests during this time, however, customers will not be issued their license until the offices fully reopen.

This temporary closure is necessary to install LEADS, the state's new modernized driver license system.

County offices will remain open during the transitional period but strictly for revenue and probate services.

So it’s going to get really cold. Please pay attention to roadways especially bridges and overpasses that have the potential to refreeze. Our sand trucks are loaded and ready to respond.
The Jefferson County Roads and Transportation Dept. wished Artee Sams a happy retirement this morning after 32 years of service as a truck driver with the County! Pictured left to right are: Dewayne Bailey, assistant superintendent, Artee Sams, Wayne Campbell, superintendent (who made the flag), and Tommy Bigham, assistant superintendent. Jefferson County Commission
We are back live Tuesday morning at 9 a.m.
Patton Chapel Phase 3 Update:
Traffic signals have been installed for the new intersection. The contractor is working on the grade adjustments tying the existing roadway to the new Patton Chapel Road. Auxiliary turn lane on Chapel Lane and Patton Chapel Road intersection will be closed during this construction phase. The new Gwin Elementary School entrance has curb & gutter installed and the black base is paved. Traffic delays are to be expected.
From Tamassee Lane to Crayrich Drive, Cross-slope correction continued from the roadway widening. The contractor continues to construct driveway tie-ins and cross street ramp transitions. Shoulder work is ongoing at all transition locations, transition paving is ongoing project-wide to tie in newly constructed facilities.
Meter and water line relocation at Gwin Elementary is complete.
Three-week Look Ahead:
The realigned intersection of Preserve Parkway, Chapel Lane, Chapel Road & Patton Chapel is expected to be paved with a temporary traffic stripe. The new Gwin Elementary school entrance/exit is planned to be complete and in operation. The guardrail in front of Simmons Middle School will be upgraded.
Future Work – Once grade revisions are complete, the contractor will be widening and installing the curb and gutter at Preserve Parkway and Patton Chapel, and completing grade adjustment on Patton Chapel from the new intersection toward Patton Creek Bridge. Re-construction of Teakwood Road at the Patton Chapel intersection with a temporary diversion to Pembrooke Lane is ongoing as Patton Chapel grade adjustments occur on Preserve Parkway for the new intersection grade.
The contractor will also be installing the final driveways and side road crossings. Topsoil and sodding will begin along the roadway behind the sidewalk.
This is a tentative work schedule. All dates are dependent on weather delays and utility relocation schedules.
Bridge Replacement Road Closure: Deer Haven Rd will be closed starting Tues, Jan. 11th. The detour will be from Cedar Mtn. Rd to Zuber Rd for local traffic. We expect it to be in effect until the completion of the new bridge, estimated May 2022.
