WHEELING — While the rest of the U.S. saw natural gas production fall in 2016, Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania combined to increase output by 2.5 billion cubic feet per day last year.

That much natural gas is enough fuel to power more than 60,000 homes for an entire year — if it can get to the region with the highest demand for electricity generation: the Eastern Seaboard.

A new report from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce shows the “Keep it in the Ground” environmentalist movement is preventing states such as New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine from gaining the benefit of this natural gas. Moreover, the group’s efforts to stop pipeline construction hinders the ability of Ohio and West Virginia to realize the full economic growth the industry could provide, the study suggests.

“Environmental groups seeking to ‘keep it in the ground’ are fighting to block virtually every project that would bring additional natural gas into the Northeast,” Karen Harbert, president and CEO of the chamber’s Energy Institute, said. “As a result, residents in the Northeast are paying the highest electricity rates in the continental United States, with no relief in sight if infrastructure is not built.”

U.S. producers pumped an average of 77 billion cubic feet of natural gas in 2016, which is down from the national record of 79 billion cubic feet per day in 2015.

Texas, which still produces more natural gas than any other state, saw daily yields fall by 2.5 billion cubic feet.

However, even as the number of active drilling rigs remains relatively low, production levels continue climbing in Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Ohio and Pennsylvania each saw production grow last year by 1.2 billion cubic feet per day, while West Virginia’s yield grew by 100 million cubic feet per day.

According to EIA, Pennsylvania and Ohio now account for 24 percent of all U.S. natural gas production. This is up from just 2 percent in 2006.

“The increased productivity of natural gas wells in the Marcellus Shale and Utica Shale is a result of ongoing improvements in precision and efficiency of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing occurring in these regions,” the EIA states.

Although West Virginia’s increase is smaller than that of its neighbors, the Mountain State grew its production for a 13th straight year in 2016, the agency added.

One company with significant operations in West Virginia, EQT Corp., continues growing the scope of its operations. Thursday, EQT President and CEO Steve Schlotterbeck said the company added 67,000 acres to its Marcellus development area in the first three months of this year.

“We’ve added more than 220,000 acres in the past 10 months and the benefits of our core consolidation efforts are now being realized through the drilling of longer laterals, which provide operational efficiencies, improve well economics and deliver stronger returns,” he said.

Within the last few months, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved the $4.3 billion Rover Pipeline, while the developer sued to use eminent domain to acquire the land to build the massive conduit that will stretch from Doddridge County, W.Va. to Michigan.

However, environmentatlists with the “Keep it in the Ground” movement continue working to stop pipeline construction.

“Stop digging. No additional fossil fuel development, no exploration for new fossil fuels, no expansion of fossil fuel projects. We need to keep fossil fuels in the ground,” a letter from the organization states.

According to the U.S. chamber, the blocking of pipeline construction in the Northeast is impacting the economic fortunes of Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Ohio will miss out on 2,083 jobs, $78.4 million in employee compensation and $294.5 million in gross domestic product by 2020, chamber officials said, while West Virginia would fail to realize 2,518 jobs, $100.2 million in employee compensation and $159 million of gross domestic product.

“As the regulatory and price environment continues to encourage the use of natural gas, northeast states will find themselves increasingly starved of the energy needed to power the economy and keep the lights on,” Harbert said. “Our analysis demonstrates that there is simply not enough capacity to meet demand, and families, consumers and businesses will all pay the price.”

Donald Trump continues to lie to the American people about the imminent passage of a new Obamacare repeal and replace bill. Ultra Conservative George Will explains, in this excerpted video, why it will not happen and the reason will shock many.

George Will realized that America's health care reality means that not only is Obamacare unrepealable but that we are on our way to a single-payer system. He seemed resigned to the fact that the failed market-based health care system he wants to retain is likely dying a slow qualified death.

"Barack Obama said as a candidate that he would prefer a single-payer plan but couldn't get there," George Will said. "As President when they were going through the Obamacare agonies, he said, look upon Obamacare as a starter home. The beginning, the thin end of an enormous wedge heading toward that. What does Donald Trump say? 'Single-payer works fine in Scotland.' So I don't see any particular animus he has as you say against a single-payer plan. And, what we've learned in this debate about repealing Obamacare is that the essence of Obamacare is the expansion of Medicaid. Who has benefited from that? Probably disproportionately white working-class males, Trump voters."

I have been saying that Obamacare was designed to be a stepping stone to single-payer health care for years. It is clear that it is the only solution.

It's about time that Conservatives come to the realization that those that benefit the most from the policies enacted by Progressives are people in the Red States (here & here). Ironically if Trump, Ryan, and their Republican cohort were successful in repealing Obamacare and instituting their draconian health care policies, their constituents would bear the brunt of the pain. While that eventuality would likely flip both the House and Senate, it is something we cannot wish on our brothers and sisters who bought into the lie.

This is why we -- not only for ourselves but the country as a whole.

General Morrisey: I have contacted your scheduling office several times in the last 2 weeks to ask you to join us at our 18 March 2017 meeting of THE JEFFERSON FORUM. The JEFFERSON FORUM is from 0830 hours to 1100 hours at the Mountain View Diner in Charles Town, WV. As of this writing, I have had no response to this request. This meeting would allow you to have at least an hour to go to Shepherdstown for your meeting scheduled at 1230 hours. Under this cover, I am sending a cut and paste of a memo I have sent to Mr. Tom Huestis, Vice President, PUBLIC RESOURCE ADVISORY GROUP, INC., Media Penna. The members of the Senate and House Finance Committees received CC's. Mr. Huestis: I have asked you this question before and I am doing so again. What role does THE PUBLIC RESOURCE ADVISORY GROUP, INC. Media, Penna. play in solving the budget crises facing the State of West Virginia for the next few years running? PRAG is the contracted Financial Adviser to the State of West Virginia. West Virginia has experienced the third reduction of its creditworthiness in less than 18 months. Surely, this is cause for concern, or am I mistaken? Since our March 2017 meeting of THE JEFFERSON FORUM will be Saturday, 18 March 2017, this information might be very helpful. This information was promised in December 2016, and has yet to arrive. Danny Lutz MODERATOR THE JEFFERSON FORUM 16th District STATE EX COMM MOUNTAIN PARTY of WEST VIRGINIA

SINGLE PAYER NATIONAL HEALTHCARE. PLEASE READ.
Support Growing for 'Single Payer' Healthcare for All
Paul Gallagher, Economics Editor, EIR
Feb. 27, 2017 (EIRNS)-Whatever Trump says about ObamaCare repeal and replacement in his State of the Union speech Tuesday evening, Republicans know-looking back to the raucus 2009 Town Hall demonstrations against the nascent ObamaCare-that health care is an issue that "gets people's blood up" and that, as much as they may hate the status quo, it is they, the Republicans, who will now be on the hook, should they open the Pandora's Box and attempt to modify the plan.
In this light, it is refreshing to hear that talk of single payer "Medicare for All" healthcare is increasing throughout the nation. A survey by Pew Research shows that a bipartisan majority of Americans-both Democrats and Republicans-now favor such a "government-supported national universal healthcare" plan, with 30% backing "single payer" by name. In Congress, Rep. John Conyers reintroduced his primary single-payer proposal, H676, the "Expanded & Improved Medicare For All Act," on Feb. 1; it currently has 59 cosponsors. Unfortunately, all of them are Democrats, and "public support" alone, does not pass federal legislation.
With chances on the federal level thus caught in the partisan quicksand, efforts are proceeding at the state level, with active bills now introduced in California, Oregon, New York and Maine, and soon to be in almost half the states in the country. Coverage today in Truthout notes that bills for single-payer plans passed the New York State Assembly with overwhelming majorities in 2015 and 2016, only to die in the Republican-dominated Senate. Organizers are hoping that, in the current climate, a similar effort this year will end differently.
Single-payer is to the insurance business what Glass- Steagall is to Wall Street: kryptonite. The flourishing deadly combination of "Big Insurance" and "Big Pharma" can only be broken with the strength of government regulation

Order trees from Eastern Panhandle WVCA to enhance your property, and create shade, as well as supporting a worthy organization.

The West Virginia Conservation Agency Eastern Panhandle District, is taking orders for trees during their annual fund raiser. The order form can be printed and used to order shade trees, hard woods, and fruit trees. If you are interested in supporting local agriculture, as well as helping to plant much needed trees, follow the instructions and send the form to the Martinsburg office. These are bare root seedlings, and quantities are limited for certain varieties. Great way to show your interest in the environment and support a great organization. .

Breaking — this week even high level Republicans are calling for Trump's impeachment! Help keep the momentum going by signing and sharing with everyone.

Impeaching Nixon looked like a long shot too -- until it happened. A new lawsuit already argues Trump has violated the constitution, and a massive petition calling for impeachment has already passed 850,000. Let’s tip it to a million to build momentum for impeachment!

SIGN NOW
Dear friends,

Impeachment is a long shot. That’s what Nixon thought, too.

Now Nixon's former White House attorney says, “I don’t think Richard Nixon even comes close to the level of corruption we already know about Trump.”

Expert lawyers agree. They've just launched a lawsuit arguing Trump is in direct, daily violation of the Constitution, for refusing to give up ownership of his business empire. And with the new Russian leaks scandal rocking the White House, a parallel petition calling for Trump’s impeachment is going viral -- over 850,000 have signed in days!

To build momentum to impeach let's tip it to a million. Sign here now:

Add your voice now: A million calling to impeach Trump

There's a strong legal case for impeachment. Because foreign governments and lobbyists could already be paying millions into Trump’s businesses -- by renting out suites at the Trump International in DC and his hotels everywhere, he’s likely daily violating a clause of the Constitution barring the President from accepting gifts from foreign states.

And that could just be the tip of the iceberg. The White House is swimming in conflict of interest scandals, from Trump promoting his daughter’s jewelry line on Twitter, to his wife Melania citing a “unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” as First Lady to make millions in merchandising.

Adding fuel to the fire are this week's bombshell reports about the Trump team's regular contacts with Russian intelligence during the election campaign.

Impeachment won’t happen overnight, and it will only move forward if we we build a strong case for it in Congress and in the court of public opinion. But we can win this. So let’s start big out of the gate with a million strong petition making the case:

Add your voice now: A million calling to impeach Trump

We’re in for the fight of our lives, but we also know the strength and persistence of this community can make miracles happen -- from putting hundreds of thousands in the streets for climate justice, to big wins worldwide on conservation, anticorruption and refugee rights. Let's keep fighting for the big things that count.

With hope and determination,
Joseph, Dalia, Nick, Nataliya and the whole Avaaz team
