Naval Services FamilyLine A volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to serving naval spouses around the world

Founded in 1965, as the Navy Wifeline Association, Naval Services FamilyLine is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to serving Navy families across the country and the world. FamilyLine stands out from other organizations because it was founded, and continues to be, by spouses for spouses. Our objective is to create a network of informed Navy families that can strengthen one anothe

r and provide a solid, united homefront. We accomplish this by focusing on our programs below:

COMPASS is a standardized 12-hour Team-Mentoring program. It focuses on spouses new to the Navy, however, all spouses are welcome. Taught over 3 days, COMPASS features spouse Mentors acting as discussion leaders with information and resources. The participants are encouraged to ask any questions they may have in an open forum. With knowledge and realistic expectations, their journeys can be successful and rewarding. Spouse Courses consist of the Naval Spouse Leadership Course (NSLC) consists of courses for CO/XO and CMC/COB. These courses are intense one-week, executive-level courses for spouses of Commanding Officers, Command Master Chiefs, Chiefs of the Boat and Command Senior Chiefs en route to their first command tour. Conceived by Senior Navy Spouses and supported by Naval Services FamilyLine since its inception in 1997, these courses run in conjunction with the Naval Leadership Courses. Guideline Series includes electronic and printed resources that address the many aspects of life as a sea service spouse. Naval Services FamilyLine volunteers have been creating and publishing guidelines for United States Navy families since 1965. Including titles like “Sea Legs,” “Social Customs and Traditions,” and "Are You Ready?", each of the 11 publications is free-of-charge for our Navy families and available for download or viewing online. CORE provides continuing education for spouses to meet the unique challenges of a military lifestyle. It offers a selection of seminars, workshops, classes, and individuals dedicated to empowering the Navy spouse, educating the Navy family and, promoting the Navy lifestyle. Workshops, topics, and speakers vary and are facilitated by local CORE Team members. Anchors Aweigh is designed to provide spouses, parents and loved ones a brief overview of what to expect of the Navy life with an introduction and eight informative sections available for download. The downloads give a new spouse or family the “just in time” information with just a click, organized by topic. Just as the needs of sea service have evolved since 1965, so too have the programs offered by Naval Services FamilyLine, accomplished by spouses, for spouses.

We couldn’t end the Month of the Military Child without recognizing a few of our favorites 💜

We asked our team to share snapshots of their own kiddos…the families behind the board of Naval Services FamilyLine. These kids have had countless adventures, said a lot of goodbyes, and figured out how to make a new place feel like home again and again. We love them for their optimism, adaptability, and independence.

Some have grown up and chosen to serve, others have carved out new adventures of their own. Many are still right in the middle of it.

To every military child, we see you and we’re so proud of you, this month and every month!
