Today, we celebrate Women's Equality Day, commemorating the 1920 adoption of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which prohibits the states and the federal government from denying the right to vote to citizens of the United States based on sex. The advancements that we have made toward equality are a true testament to the enormous impact that an empowered woman can have on the world.
Let us keep pushing, Mujeres, the work toward true #genderequality isn't done yet!
“Here's to strong women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them.”
For your safety and the safety of others, wear a mask while in public. #maskup #allinthistogether #COVID19

Community leaders join BNHR in opposition to the construction of a new border wall in Chihuahuita
This morning, Senator José Rodríguez and I visited the tent city in Tornillo, Texas where over 300 boys and 20 girls aged 13-17 are currently in detention. While the facility is well-managed and the children appear to be receiving adequate care, medical services, recreational activities and mental health intervention this community and this country cannot stand by as children are held in tents in the middle of the desert. Even as they provide outstanding emergency relief, the organization contracted in Tornillo clarified that they would not continue the work of detaining children and families due to issues of morality.
Going forward, our voices must be clear as our own Fort Bliss will become a site to house 12,000 immigrants under entirely different management. Today, we were told that there is no way to detain that many people in one place humanely or safely.
This community must send a clear message today and in November. Family seperation and family incarceration must end now.
Members of the International Trade and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee hold a Press Conference at City Hall to discuss the impact of binational and mutli-state trading agreements.
Alongside Dreamers and the Border Network for Human Rights
I stood alongside Dreamers and the Border Network for Human Rights this morning in solidarity. We continue insisting that our lawmakers in DC work toward a clean DREAM Act for our families in Texas and El Paso.
Thanks to the El Paso Press Club for the great conversation on improving communication with our lawmakers, press, and community.
