Thank you to Commissioners Alvin New and Robert Vaughn for visiting El Paso on Wednesday to hear our community’s transportation needs and concerns.

Earlier this week, myself, members of our delegation, and other community leaders were fortunate to have Commissioners New and Vaughn attend a roundtable discussion on the vitality of transportation infrastructure in our community.

This important conversation allowed  Commissioners to hear firsthand from local constituents, community leaders, and transportation experts. We listened to concerns and discussed collaborative efforts to ensure opportunity for our community. I look forward to continuing to work with TxDOT and other local elected officials in order to ensure our community receives the transportation investments we need and deserve as a vital part of the State.

This morning I was honored to speak at AT&T's Believe El Paso launch event for their mobile digital lab, meant to bridge the digital divide in our community. We are excited that AT&T chose our great city of El Paso as the third BELIEVE location in Texas joining Dallas and Houston. During the pandemic, it became evident that our city was in desperate need of additional support and resources to provide digital empowerment to our students and community. We are thankful that AT&T BELIEVE is taking the initiative to meet that need

Today the U.S. Supreme Court has unjustly attacked a woman's personal right to an abortion. Interpretation of this personal right was subjectively opined based on capricious political views. It is harmful to all women. Our rights for equality have once again been trampled on. We must stand together.

With triple-digit temperatures forecasted for the next week 10 days, the City of El Paso is activating its cooling centers starting on Wednesday, June 8.

Health and Emergency officials once again urge the community, especially senior residents, to stay as cool as possible in order to avoid heat-related illnesses.

The cooling centers provide an indoor, air-conditioned, environment for residents to visit and cool down throughout the day and are a collaboration between the El Paso Office of Emergency Management, the City of El Paso Parks and Recreation, and the Extreme Weather Task Force.

The FREE cooling stations are located at:

• Galatzan Rec Center, 650 Wallenberg Dr.
• Chalio Acosta Sports Center, 4321 Delta Dr.
• Veterans Rec Center, 5301 Salem Dr.
• Chamizal Rec Center, 2101 Cypress Ave.
• Valle Bajo Community Center, 7380 Alameda Ave.
• Marty Robbins Rec Center, 11620 Vista del Sol Dr.

The cooling stations hours of operations are as follows:

• Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Friday to Sunday from noon to 7 p.m.

Residents in need of a fan for their homes can request one for free by dialing 2-1-1. Fan donations are accepted at any El Paso and Horizon Fire Stations.

13/04/2022

Last week, Governor Abbott directed the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to inspect every single commercial truck entering the state from Mexico at all border crossings. This is after the trucks have already passed a federal customs inspection by Customs and Border Patrol (CPB). These unnecessary measures have resulted in enormous backups and congestion at the ports of entry. Wait times have been reported to be as long as twelve hours, with some truckers even having to wait in line overnight. This is an outrageous increase compared to normal inspection procedures, which in total last about an hour at most. This inspection mandate is hurting the state, especially the border. It hinders the already struggling supply chain and will only exacerbate current inventory shortages, resulting in negative consequences for the Texas economy which trickle down to the average Texan in the form of price hikes.

Regional transportation groups including the El Paso Metropolitan Planning Organization, the El Paso Mobility Coalition and forward-thinking elected officials understand the importance of the I-10 modernization project and are leading the way to get this done.

If you don't like living in a State that respects the 2A, get out. You aren't getting our guns or our rights .
The NTTA is charging toll fees to El Paso drivers, as a law abiding citizen and coming from a so called authority, I trusted the charges were legitimate and paid. After seeing the Channel 7 (KVIA) news (link below), turns out they were not. Contacted the NTTA for refund. Contact you bank they said. Be aware an don't pay attention to those charges. Maybe there are many of us. I hope this gets somebody's attention. NTTA should be investigated for fraud!!!

Collect the 550. Trump owe you for his first visit. Then he can come tomorrow.
Need to say this publicly so everyone knows where he stands.
I support your views regarding Trump’s proposed visit. It will cause more strain and is not needed nor is it welcome at this time. My prayers go out to you as you cope with this senseless tragedy.
You dont speak for me or a lot of el pasoens.
Let Texas SB839/HB4260 be the next State to get this Law passed with your help. Thanking you in advance
Honorable Lina Ortega thank you for the time to view this comment. I wanted to answer a question you posed during the House Subcommittee on Health Professions hearing for recently. You questioned, "How long have other states had access to physical therapy without referral?" Here are the relative facts: Direct access to physical therapy was first implemented statewide in Nebraska in 1957. Sixty-two years ago!
3. 16 direct access states granted their state access in the 1980s or prior!
Direct access (no referral required) is not a new concept rather an adopted policy that has been slow for many states but as you see above 1/3 of our country has provided better access to physical therapy for DECADES. Of further mentioned (as stated during this hearing), there have been no states that have RESCINDED rights to physical therapy in the history of this great nation. Please help this wonderful advocacy for Texas resident rights to access of physical therapy
Please increase our Representation by growing the State House Members from 150 to 300 (1 Rep per 100K people). Smaller districts make the representatives more accountable to their constituency and foster greater individual liberty.
