Shh. . . It's Silent Book Club time! Join the library and Mills County Chamber of Commerce at Vine Street Café & Bakery NEXT Monday, Oct. 12th at 6pm. Didn't do the assigned reading? Don't worry - there wasn't any! Silent Book Club has no specific reading. You bring what you want to read (or listen to!) and enjoy yourself. Pack your appetite for words, pastries, and coffee. See you next week!

FREE Omaha Zoo passes are back in stock!

Stop by our Children's Dept. today to pick up a zoo pass and journey across the river to visit Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium!

At the zoo admission gate, make sure you have a physical copy of your library card, along with your zoo pass to admit 2 adults (ages 12 and over) and 6 kids for FREE! Valid from October 1st - November 30th, 2026.

Zoo Pass Pick up Details:

•Cardholder must be present at time of ticket pickup
•Must have a library card in good standing (active account, fees less than $20)
•Must be an Adult patron (18 or older)
•Limit one pass per family

Finish the year strong with GPL’s new Reading Challenge for all ages! Stop by the library to pick up a punch card, complete the challenge for the month, and come back to the library to get a punch on your card and a monthly prize! The challenge for October is to read a spooky short story. Need some ideas? Ask a librarian to see a list of a few options!

Come at 6 to order a drink and be the first to get your hands on the latest library books, then settle down at 6:30 to hear from award-winning homicide detective Brian Bogdanoff. Before his service as a homicide detective, Bogdanoff was a member of one of the most successful undercover narcotics units in Omaha. Follow along the chilling trail of evidence from a remote wooded area where three bodies are set on fire, which leads homicide detectives across the country chasing down witnesses and conspirators in a two-year search for cold-blooded killers.
