make great teammates!

All November, we've honored the more than 25% Veteran workforce in the Buffalo District and Veterans living in the communities we serve.

Building strong connections with Veteran-focused services is a priority for us, so we finished out the month with two organizations focused on ensuring Veterans get the benefits they need.

Arthur Lawson, a New York State Veterans Benefits Advisor, explained VA benefits and compensation claims, and Colleen Drake and Theresa Mignone from the Buffalo Vet Center, talked about the counseling and connections they provide to Veterans.

Happy Black Friday! 🚗🖥💻

As you safely enjoy your shopping online or as that post Thanksgiving tradition with family and friends for the best deals the season can bring, that ensures commodities can move safely, reliably, and efficiently along 12,000 miles of inland and 13,000 miles of intracoastal waterways?

Almost everything Americans use moves through USACE waterways and ports, including 98% of overseas trade, 70% of imported oil, and 48% of consumer goods bought by Americans.

Dredging harbors like those in Toledo, Ohio, Buffalo, New York, and rivers like the Cuyahoga in Cleveland, Ohio ensures accessible depths for large vessels, the continued flow of commodities across the Great Lakes, and the economic viability of United States waterways.

Happy Thanksgiving from our family in the Buffalo District to you and yours! 🦃🍽

Recently the Regulators made up of biologist's Shaina Souder, Tina Stonemetz, Doug Kapusinski, Shawn Blohm, Brian Swartz, and Mark Scalabrino, presented at the USACE Buffalo District Consultant Atypical and Problematic Delineation Workshop. Attendees included 37-participants from wetland consulting firms throughout Ohio.

Broken up into two sessions, the morning session included wetland delineation presentations with a focus on methodology while the afternoon session included a roundtable discussion with a panel of USACE staff, which allowed participants to ask and discuss various questions about permitting, application submittals, etc.

The event allowed collaboration with environmental consultants, who help convey Regulatory processes to the public. It also helped build relationships with our private-sector counter-parts, providing them accurate information to help represent the public, while possibly creating efficiencies by ensuring the environmental consultants submit the needed information for complete reviews.

Congratulations to Rebecca Giangreco on being named employee of the month for November!

She is a Buffalo State alumni, an Army Fellow and as a student trainee with the Buffalo District, she led the charge in getting together with stakeholders involved with our Scajaquada Creek 1135 project and looking at ways to revitalize and restore the creek watershed.

The result was the development of a common vision and priorities for the project, which is key to project success.

We're almost done moving dirt and stone to ensure Ohio's Vermilion Harbor is economically viable and recreationally safe!

Construction on the harbor's west pier continues as the crest is now complete from the beach to the navigation light, at the end of the pier. So far we've placed approximately 3,200 tons of armor stone and have approximately 700 feet remaining to be completed on the lakeside slope.

The beach will still remain open to the public on the weekends throughout construction.

This is a critical time for investments in our nation’s infrastructure and the 's civil works mission provides a key foundational component.
