🔦 Employee Spotlight: Roger Ray
💧 Supervisor, Water Dispatching
Water Department
“Reliable water delivery depends on coordination, communication, and around-the-clock commitment.”
Roger helps supervise and coordinate irrigation water distribution across IID’s water system. In his role as Supervisor of Water Dispatching, he supports the movement of water through canals and reservoirs, helps coordinate water scheduling, and works with internal teams, partner agencies, water users, landowners, growers, and the public.
His work contributes to IID’s mission by helping ensure water essential to life and progress continues moving through the Imperial Valley 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. From balancing supply and demand to responding during weather events, Roger and his team help keep water operations running safely and reliably.
Much of Roger’s work happens behind the scenes. Water Control operates every day of the year, with staff monitoring the system, communicating with field crews, and responding to changing conditions to support reliable water delivery.
Roger began his career working outdoors as a Zanjero, where he enjoyed working directly with farmers and irrigators. As water operations became more automated, he was drawn to the computer side of water management and now takes pride in helping manage the water entering the Imperial Valley through IID’s irrigation system.
Outside of work, Roger is proud that all three of his children share a special connection to the same university, with two continuing their academic and athletic journeys there and his oldest daughter recently earning her master’s degree.
👏 Thank you, Roger, for your leadership and for helping support the around-the-clock work that keeps water moving for our communities.
