Maverick's Story
In this heart-touching video, we share the incredible story of Maverick, a true miracle baby born at just 25 weeks, weighing only 1 lb, 10.5 ounces. Maverick's parents, Ricky Schopp and Jessica Kragness, take us through their emotional journey of hope and healing, sharing their experiences and gratitude. Everything was going perfectly until the day Maverick was born, and it became a race against time.
They describe the most dramatic moments they faced while waiting to find out if their little one had a heartbeat. With the help of St. John’s, their chances of survival increased from 25% to 65%, bringing a sigh of relief to the entire family. Today, Maverick is thriving, just under 4 lbs, but he was born with a large PDA creating a heart murmur, adding to the challenges the family faced. Ricky and Jessica share their experiences and emotions, highlighting the tremendous support they received from the Ronald McDonald House Charities. They speak about the financial relief, the convenience of being close to the children's hospital, and the welcoming atmosphere of the house. Their quotes reflect the incredible impact of your support and generosity.
This video is a testament to the power of hope, love, and community. Join us in celebrating the strength of Maverick and his family as they continue their journey of healing. Share this video to spread awareness about the vital role Ronald McDonald House Charities plays in supporting families like Ricky, Jessica, and Maverick.

Jaxon's Story
Meet Jaxon, a remarkable 8-year-old boy who has faced more challenges in his young life than most. In this heartfelt video, we introduce you to Jaxon, his mom, Amber, and his dad, Ben, as they share their touching story of courage and perseverance during Jaxon's battle with leukemia and other health obstacles.
Jaxon's journey began with an unexpected heart defect diagnosis on the day he was born, leading to a life-saving open-heart surgery at just 15 days old. The Ronald McDonald House was not in Peoria at the time, and the family endured significant financial strain as they navigated this difficult period.
When the unthinkable happened right before Christmas, and Jaxon showed signs of influenza, it was the start of another challenging chapter. He woke up a week later with two black eyes and bruises all over his body, leading to the heartbreaking discovery of leukemia. Jaxon spent over 30 days in the hospital, facing the arduous second phase of leukemia treatment.
In their own words, Ben and Amber recount the financial and emotional burdens they faced, recalling the credit card debt, hotel stays, and restaurant expenses. However, their lives took a turn when they learned about the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Illinois (RMHCCI).
As Ben aptly puts it, "We had to be here, so we figured it out. It was a big difference until this time." With Jaxon's leukemia diagnosis, their concerns resurfaced, but the support from RMHCCI proved to be a lifeline. A dedicated caseworker provided them with the information they needed, and it was like a weight lifted off their chests.
The Ronald McDonald House became a home away from home for the family, offering them a place to eat, sleep, and stay close to the hospital. Amber fondly remembers the warm meals provided by the staff and the to-go containers filled with love.

Brian, from all of us at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Illinois, we want to thank you for your hard work and dedication to moving our mission forward for over ten years. We wish you the best of luck with your future endeavors!
Lyndie was born at 23 weeks and 2 days. Lyndie had less than a 10% chance to survive. She had a 9-month-long Nicu stay and her family stayed at the House during her journey. It is clinically proven that children thrive better when their parents are close by. The Ronald McDonald House provided a wonderful home, warm meals, hot showers, social support, and a sense of relief which is priceless in such a stressful time of their lives. “The Ronald McDonald House was a lifesaver and kept us near her on her good days and bad. We are forever thankful and grateful for being a part of our journey.” - Katie Alsup (mom)
