Created in 1960, the Park System has over 30 parks, forests, gardens, wetland/marine habitats, golf courses, historic sites, recreation areas, and conservation properties totaling over 17,000 acres.

🤝🏻 Looking for ways to give back to the community or have a teen who wants to earn volunteer hours?
🍂 There are plenty of opportunities during our family-fun Thompson Park Day on Sunday, October 18, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. (shifts available from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 2 p.m.-5 p.m.). Volunteers assist staff and guests with pumpkin painting, pie-eating contests, kids' races, crafts, archery, and so much more.

We are happy to introduce Shadow, a black vulture nestling who is our newest addition to Monmouth County’s collaboration with Hawk Mountain Sanctuary. Shadow was tagged toward the end of summer and will help provide the scientific community with valuable data relating to shifting territories for their species.

As you can see from the map, Shadow has been spending most of its time near Turkey Swamp Park and the Manasquan Reservoir. Next time you go there for a walk, look around; you might catch a glimpse of Shadow flying about! If you happen to see a black vulture with the bright yellow tag #506, please report it online to the USGS Bird Banding Laboratory.

This project is supported in part by the Friends of the Monmouth County Parks. Birds were handled for the purpose of scientific research under a federally authorized Bird Banding Permit issued by the U.S. Geological Survey and in accordance with all state permitting requirements.

Check out this postcard of the Bay Side Manor (circa 1915) in Port Monmouth. Today, this historic building is Bayshore Waterfront Park's Seabrook-Wilson House, named after the Seabrook and Wilson families who owned the landmark property between the 1700s and 1800s.
