MENTOR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Our club’s biggest service project is the mentor scholarship program. Sharon Moman is chairperson of this important committee.

Every member of our club supports this program through an annual dues surcharge of $100. Last week, our club awarded three scholarships. Each scholarship is for $2000 per semester for 8 semesters.

But most importantly, each recipient is assigned a club member to serve as a mentor. Recipients are required to regularly communicate with their mentor about their:
• class selection,
• academic progress and grades,
• study habits,
• social choices, and
• career plans.

The mentoring aspect of the program is really the heart of it. The scholarship money is primarily an incentive to encourage students to allow us to mentor them and to help them develop a habit of community service.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

• Applicant must be a graduating high school senior.

• Must plan to attend a college, university, junior college, or community college in Mississippi.

• Must have an ACT score of at least 22

• Must have a high school GPA of at least 3.0

• Must be from households where the combined family income is less than $75,000 per year.

• Must reside in Hinds, Madison, or Rankin County.

• Cannot be a relative of a member of our club.
