The City of Fredericksburg’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Events was recognized in five areas of excellence at a statewide awards ceremony last week. Over 400 delegates, exhibitors, speakers, and volunteers from around the state gathered at the 70th Annual Conference of the Virginia Recreation and Park Society. Judged by a jury of its peers, Fredericksburg Parks, Recreation & Events received four awards:
• Distinguished Private Sector Service Award for their partnership with the Fredericksburg Nationals.
• Best New Facility for Riverfront Park.
• Best New Program for the Rec2U Mobile Recreation Program.
• Best New Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiative for the Walker-Grant High School Class of 1950 Graduation Protest Historic Site.
In addition, Anne Little was honored with the Distinguished Volunteer Service Award for her tree stewardship efforts and for partnering with city events to promote nature conservation.

Babysitting is a big responsibility and you want to make sure you are ready for the task. Join us and learn all that you need to know to be a Safe Sitter. Participants will learn about safety, CPR and First Aid, childcare basics, as well as life and business skills. Junior Naturalists is a great opportunity for the preteens and teens that enjoy the outdoors. Series with different themes are offered every spring & fall. The Fredericksburg StoryWalk's® newest story is "Senorita Mariposa" (by Ben Gundersheimer) and is all about the Monarch Butterfly's amazing 2,000+ mile migration (going on right now!). This book is in English and Spanish so even more families can enjoy it! Bring out your kids, grandkids, or neighbor's kids for a walk along the trail and a fun story. At the end of the book, there is even information on pollinators and what we can do to help them.
