With all eyes on Christian Pulisic, who scored the game-winning goal for the U.S. Mens National Team at the FIFA World Cup this week, we’d like to send well-wishes to this member of the extended family, as U.S. Soccer reports that he has been cleared to play in Saturday’s game!

Christian's interest in soccer was fostered when his mother, Kelley Pulisic, received a Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching to the United Kingdom. He says that he spent hours playing and watching soccer during his family's time in the . Christian is a great example of how the positive impact of the Fulbright Program extends beyond the Fulbrighters themselves. The experience of living abroad often makes a profound difference in the lives of their family members.

DOS Diplomat in Residence - Southwest highlights members of the Foreign Service with connections to the Southwest. Meet Foreign Service Officer Zoja Bazarnic.

"I was born in the former Yugoslavia and immigrated to the U.S. as a small child. When my family first saw the Southwest, we fell in love instantly with the stunning beauty and rich, accepting culture.

Shortly after college, I joined the Foreign Service for the challenge of dealing with complex issues that affect the security of all Americans. As I took the Foreign Service Exam, I pictured myself working with people from around the world to promote democracy and foster prosperity. Almost 19 years later, it has been a more incredible journey than I could have imagined that has taken me from Havana to Rome, the Sinai, Edinburgh, and San Jose, Costa Rica.

Now, I am right back home in Tucson, where I advise a U.S. Air Force command on political-military issues. (And my husband, kids, and I visit our family in New Mexico and Arizona whenever we can.)

When I represent the United States overseas, I am also representing the diversity and culture of the Southwest border region, which connects us so closely to our Latin American neighbors. I am proud to share my love of the incredible food, scenery, people, and art wherever I go!"
