Fishing, swimming, camping and more just 15 minutes from Wichita Falls. We are a 524 acre Texas State Park about 15 minutes from Wichita Falls, TX.

We offer RV camping, tent camping, equestrian and hiking trails,
18 holes of frisbee golf, 9 lane boat ramp, fishing pier and floating dock,
swimming area, and numerous other outdoor recreational activities. LOANER PROGRAM
We have a loaner program, free of charge, that includes: fishing poles and tackle boxes, disc golf and horseshoe equipment, basketballs, and binoculars and books for bird and butterfly watching.

Join us on January 1, 2026 for two First Day Hikes at Lake Arrowhead SP! We will also have coffee and hot cocoa. 🌞☕️ Both hikes meet at the Equestrian Area:

⭐️ Dragonfly Trail: 9AM, half-mile casual loop on our nature trail. Level terrain.
⭐️ South Onion Creek Trail: 10AM, approx. 1.5 mile loop, the trail is grassy and has a few spots that are uneven.

❗️PARK ALERT: BURN BAN IN EFFECT ️❗️The Clay County Commissioners Court has issued a burn ban for our county. Lake Arrowhead State Park is under a burn ban until further notice.

Today's plants - Indiangrass (Sorghastrum nutans) and Maximilian Sunflower (Helianthus maximiliani)! Indiangrass is one of the Big Four native prairie grasses (The Big Four are: Big Bluestem, Little Bluestem, Indiangrass, and Switchgrass). This grass is fantastic for erosion control due to its deep roots, and wildlife use it for cover, food, and nesting material. It can grow between 3-8 ft tall, and forms a metallic golden seed head in the fall. Maximilian Sunflowers bloom in the fall too, and like Indiangrass, it's an important food source for wildlife such as deer, birds, and migrating monarch butterflies.🦋

Today's plant: Antelope horn (Asclepias Asperula). Antelope horn, named for the seed pods that resemble the horns of an antelope, is a type of milkweed plant. Milkweed is a major food source for Monarch and Queen butterfly caterpillars. Consuming milkweed is what makes these two butterflies taste bad to potential predators.

Today's plant: Blazing-Stars (genus Liatris). There are several different species of blazing-stars, and each one of these beautiful, fall-blooming plants are an important food source for pollinators, such as the queen butterflies seen in this photo.

Today's plant: Buttonbush (Cephalanthus occidentalis). This shrub loves wetland habitats and floodplains, and supports a variety of wildlife: waterfowl, birds, deer, and numerous pollinators (bees, butterflies, moths, hummingbirds).
