Here's some statistics referring to firework safety. Even with the rain we had to today we're still extremely dry. Please keep a working garden hose available in case any fire starts. Also keep in mind if any fire that starts and burns to neighboring property you can be held liable for any and all damages created from the fire. Also keep in mind that with this dry weather if multiple fires break out our resources will be spread thin and it may take longer for us to respond to your call. Let us all enjoy this 4th of July but furthermore let's do it safely.

Please see the attached information from MoDOT in regards to the upcoming Interstate 44 road construction.

Here is what we know so far, Starting late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, (2/21 or 2/22) one lane of eastbound traffic will be diverted to the westbound side from Rolla exit 186 to St. James exit 195. There will be two lanes of westbound traffic, one lane of eastbound traffic on the westbound side and one lane of eastbound traffic on the eastbound side. In layman's terms, there will be head-to-head traffic on the westbound side of I-44 from St. James to Rolla. Anyone traveling from Rolla to St. James who wishes to exit at Hwy V or St. James MUST be traveling on the eastbound side or you will not be able to exit the interstate until you travel to Cuba.

Without a doubt there will be accidents during this construction period. If you are involved in or witness an accident please relay as much information as possible when calling 911. Where are you located? How many vehicles involved? Is this incident accessible from the outer road? These are question you may be able to answer that will greatly improve our response plan as well as the response of the fire department and police department.

You may also consider avoiding I-44 all together and utilize the outer roads, Hwy BB, Hwy 68/63 or a variety of beautiful backroads that will help you get to your final destination.

For reference:
~Westbound - from St. James to Rolla
~Eastbound - from Rolla to St. James
~Two lanes of traffic will be traveling West in the westbound lane
~One lane of traffic will be traveling East in the westbound lane
~One lane of traffic will be traveling East in the eastbound lane
~Hwy V and the St. James Exit WILL NOT be accessed from the westbound side if traveling east

This construction plan seems to be fluid and ever changing. We will try our best to keep the public updated as we learn of changes. We are predicting an influx of traffic through St. James as word of the lane diversion and slow traffic becomes public and more well known. Please have patience, remain calm, allow extra travel time and always be aware of your surroundings.

From MoDot
Starting Wednesday, February 22, contractors for MoDOT will begin to shift traffic and crossover the median from the Eastbound passing lane, utilizing the Westbound passing lane along Interstate 44 from Rolla to St. James.
Most of the work will be performed during daytime hours from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. There may be
periods when work will occur during nighttime hours. MoDOT says work is expected to be
completed by late fall 2023.
