Outward Bound Community Services, LLC OBCS is a disability family owned & operated business providing a variety of supports to individuals and families on the Indiana Medicaid Waiver.

We also offer family fun, disability education, training, support, & networking. Because Community Matters! Welcome to Outward Bound Support Services, LLC! We are delighted that you are interested in finding out about the services we offer to persons of all ages participating in the Community Integration & Habilitation (CIH) and Family Supports Waiver (FSW). Our agency started in May 2018 with jus

t two Behavior Consultants, Jennifer David and Brooke Love. A few months later, two new Behavior Consultants joined OBSS and, within the first year of business, OBSS doubled in size in both the number of Behavior Consultants and persons being served. Our agency immediately saw the need for families to have access to participant assistance and care services (PAC) in order to assist with helping their loved one live safely and successfully in the community. Therefore, in May 2019, we added PAC services and a few months later, we hired our first recreational therapist in the Indianapolis area. Our mission at Outward Bound Support Services, LLC is to provide positive supports to persons, families and caregivers living with intellectual and developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injury and autism. It is our goal to help those that we serve live the life that they want! We strive to help them make connections, engage in meaningful relationships and activities and empower them to be their best self and advocate for themselves. By the beginning of 2023, OBSS has grown to serve nearly 300 persons in over 70 counties in Indiana. We continue to look for ways to strengthen our relationships with the persons and families that we serve, other service providers, stakeholders, and communities we work in. Thanks again for your interest in Outward Bound Support Services, we look forward to hearing from you! Sincerely,
Jennifer David, Owner

May 28 – Senior Health & Fitness Day

As we age, everyday movement can become more challenging. Conditions like arthritis, balance disorders, and mobility limitations can impact independence and quality of life.

But movement doesn’t have to look the same to still be meaningful.

With the right support, guidance, and encouragement, staying active can help improve strength, confidence, and overall well-being—no matter the stage of life.

Let’s continue to promote safety, prevent falls, and support independence for our seniors.

“Movement may look different with age—but it still matters.”

Pure Alexia Awareness

Pure Alexia is a neurological condition where a person loses the ability to read—while their ability to write and speak remains intact.

They may recognize individual letters, but putting them together into words becomes slow and difficult, often requiring them to read one letter at a time.

Imagine being able to write a sentence… but not being able to read it back.

It’s a powerful reminder that the brain processes each skill in its own unique way.

With understanding and support, individuals can find new ways to navigate everyday life.

“You can write the words… but can’t read them back.”

Hemispatial Neglect Awareness

Hemispatial neglect is a neurological condition often caused by a stroke or brain injury, where a person may ignore one side of their surroundings.

This doesn’t mean they can’t see—it means the brain isn’t processing that side of space. Someone might only eat food on one side of a plate or miss objects and people on one side entirely.

It’s a powerful reminder of how the brain shapes our reality—and how different that reality can be.

Patience, awareness, and support make a meaningful difference.

“Half the world… just disappears.”

Anton Syndrome Awareness

Anton Syndrome is a rare neurological condition where a person is blind—but is unaware of their blindness.

Even though they cannot see, the brain may create the belief that vision is still intact, sometimes leading individuals to describe what they think they’re seeing.

It’s a powerful reminder that the brain doesn’t always interpret reality the way we expect.

Awareness leads to understanding—and understanding leads to compassion.

“Seeing… without actually seeing.”

Dysprosody Awareness

Dysprosody is a neurological condition that affects the tone, rhythm, and emotional expression in a person’s speech.

Someone with dysprosody may speak in a way that sounds flat, robotic, or emotionally different from what they truly feel—often leading to misunderstandings in everyday conversations.

It’s important to remember: the message is still there, even if the delivery sounds different.

Let’s lead with patience, understanding, and empathy.

“It’s not what you say—it’s how you say it… and some can’t control that.”

Stroke Awareness Month

A stroke can change a person’s life in an instant—sometimes leading to long-term physical, cognitive, or communication challenges.

But recovery doesn’t stop after the hospital. With the right support, therapy, and community, individuals can continue to rebuild strength, independence, and confidence.

Every step forward matters—and no one should have to take that journey alone.

“Recovery is a journey—support makes every step stronger.”

May 14 – Apraxia Awareness Day

Apraxia is a motor speech disorder that affects a person’s ability to plan and coordinate the movements needed for speech.

This means someone may know exactly what they want to say—but their brain and mouth aren’t always working together to say it clearly.

With patience, support, and the right resources, individuals with apraxia can find their voice in their own unique way.

“Communication looks different for everyone—and every voice matters.”

💜 Fibromyalgia Awareness Day 💜

Fibromyalgia is often called an “invisible illness”—but for those living with it, the pain is very real.

It’s more than just feeling tired or sore. Fibromyalgia can affect:
⚡ Energy levels
🧠 Memory and focus (“fibro fog”)
💤 Sleep quality
💢 Chronic, widespread pain

And the hardest part? Many people suffer in silence because their symptoms aren’t always visible to others.

Today, we encourage you to:
💭 Be patient with those who are struggling
💭 Educate yourself on invisible illnesses
💭 Show compassion—you never know what someone is facing

Because awareness leads to understanding… and understanding leads to stronger communities.
