Associate Justice Ketanji Brown-Jackson, the United States Supreme Court's first African American female justice, took two oaths today: the 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝗮𝘁𝗵, in which she affirmed that she's bound to support the Constitution and that "no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office," and the 𝗝𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝗮𝘁𝗵, in which she vowed to administer justice impartially and faithfully, "without respect to persons, and do equal right to the poor and to the rich."

Today!: "Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson will appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee … [as ] the first Black woman justice … an historic moment… Jackson, 51, sits on DC's federal appellate court and had been considered the front-runner for the vacancy since Justice Stephen Breyer announced his retirement. Jackson worked as a clerk for Breyer, a federal public defender, an attorney in private practice, a federal district court judge and a member of the US Sentencing Commission…”

"[We] must never forget," Chief Justice Marshall admonished us in a statement pregnant with more than one meaning, "that it is a constitution we are expounding."' Marshall meant that the Constitution should be read as a document "intended to endure for ages.to come, and, consequently, to be adapted to the various crises of human affairs."'2 But he meant also that the construction placed upon the document must have regard for its "great outlines" and "important objects."'3 Limits are implied by the very nature of the task. There is not the same freedom in construing the Constitution as in constructing a moral code. The conclusion that there are limits to the meaning that may be given the Constitution is not likely to arouse controversy. Yet, that conclusion masks an important ambiguity concerning the source and permanence of those limits..." Sandalow, Terrance. "Constitutional Interpretation." Mich. L. Rev. 79 (1981): 1033-72, Abstract.

What is "justice"? "Constitutionality"? The current United States Attorney General and the current Office of the United States Attorney General have strong opinions on both...
"'The act is clearly unconstitutional,' Attorney General Merrick Garland said, adding that a state may not prohibit any woman from making the decision to terminate her pregnancy before a viability.
He also said the Texas law deputizes private citizens to serves as 'bounty hunters' and that the Justice Department had filed the suit because it had the responsibility 'to ensure no state can deprive individuals of their constitutional rights.'"
