Women’s Health Month is a reminder that informed care matters, especially for women living with epilepsy. 💜

For people managing seizures during pregnancy, understanding anti-seizure medications and available support resources can help make informed decisions alongside your care team. This Clinician’s Corner by Dr. Patricia Penovich explores what pregnancy registries are, why they matter, and how they help improve epilepsy care for expecting mothers.

You can also explore additional information about anti-seizure medications during pregnancy from the Epilepsy Foundation: epilepsy.com/stories/anti-seizure-medications-during-pregnancy

More than a million women with epilepsy are of childbearing age in the United States. Each year, 20,000 babies are born to women living with epilepsy. The fetus, or unborn baby, is exposed to anti-seizure medications in one of every 50 pregnancies.

Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota was proud to have staff and advocates attending the Epilepsy Foundation of America Public Policy Institute in Washington, D.C. last week. 💜

The event brought together epilepsy advocates, affiliate staff, and community members from across the country for several days of learning, networking, and advocacy focused on improving the lives of people impacted by epilepsy.

Minnesota attendees joined legislative meetings with staff from the offices of Amy Klobuchar, Tina Smith, and Ilhan Omar to discuss key legislative priorities, including the National Plan for Epilepsy. Advocates also shared personal stories and experiences to help highlight the real impact epilepsy has on individuals and families across Minnesota.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to have EFMN represented on Capitol Hill and to continue raising awareness, building connections, and advocating for meaningful change for the epilepsy community.

This week, Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota hosted our first EpiForum, bringing together clinicians, researchers, and industry partners for an important conversation around the topic: Emerging Technologies in Epilepsy Care.

We were honored to welcome guest speakers Gregory A. Worrell, M.D., Ph.D. and Aisha Abdulrazaq, M.D. as they shared their expertise in how advances in neuromodulation and data-driven approaches are shaping the future of epilepsy care.

A huge thank you to our guest speakers, facilitator Sandipan Pati, M.D., planning committee members, sponsors, and everyone who joined us to learn, connect, and support the mission of the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota.

Conversations like these help move us closer to a future with better outcomes, more personalized care, and improved quality of life for people impacted by epilepsy.
