We’re honored to join Governor Wes Moore in celebrating National Kinship Care Month and recognizing the relatives, neighbors, and trusted adults providing safe, loving homes for Maryland's youth.

Thanks to the 2024 Kinship Care Law and the Moore-Miller administration’s Family Matters initiative, 50% of children in foster care under 10 were living with kin as of July (up from 34.5% in July 2024) — meaning more than 230 additional children remain connected to family by blood or by choice while in out-of-home care.

“As a former kinship caregiver myself, I am grateful … for the kinship caregivers who have opened their homes and hearts to care for their young family members. It is making a world of difference for Maryland’s youth,” said DHS Acting Secretary Stacy Rodgers.

The Allegany County Local Management Board, Allegany College, and the ENOUGH Initiative are inviting Allegany County community members to participate in one of two public information-sharing sessions in September.

BUILDING A STRONGER COMMUNITY, TOGETHER
A Community Capacity Building Session for Families and Community Members

September 28 at HRDC, 125 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, MD or September 30 at the Frostburg Senior Center, 27 South Water Street, Frostburg, MD. Both sessions are scheduled from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Join us to share a meal, and begin a conversation about strengthening the very community where we live, learn, and grow. You are invited to share your experiences, learn from others, and help shape future opportunities in your community!
