15 of us gathered at Anthony's restaurant in Falls Church (VA) and enjoyed fellowship and basic catching up with each other. And we included the many people in danger and privation in Florida (because of hurricane) in our prayers. Our next gathering is the gathering of the regiment in Tucson the week of October 25 which will, as always, remember those who have served the last full measure and have entered their rest. Ben Nass and Jack Marcom, from our own chapter, are two who will be remembered. Tentatively we will gather at Anthony's again in late January 2023. God bless each of you, and God bless our currently serving Ministry Teams, especially those in harm's way.

From the US Army Chaplain Corps Regimental Association:
We are a band of brothers and sisters in faith who serve Soldiers: Chaplains, Religious Affairs Specialists, DREs, and DA Civilians working with the Corps. We do this one relationship at a time. Over time those relationships build a committed community of godly servants whose bond is stronger with each new person who joins that committed crowd. The USACCRA is the human nucleus of our Army Chaplain Corps community. It straddles Active, Reserve, and Guard. It gaps past, present, and future service. It archives our history, mentors our daily work, and helps form our future directions. See you at the USACCRA biennial gathering in Tucson, AZ., Oct. 25-28, 2022, to be a part of that community and gathering. See

USACCRA represents those who serve and have served for God and country in the Army Chaplain Corps. It is a prime way to be who we are regardless of our current status or what faith group we represent. In a world splintered by many means, here is one place where a comradeship can still be experienced. See you in Tucson, AZ., Oct 25-28, 2022. See

About a dozen of us gathered at Anthony's Restaurant in Falls Church on Thursday, April 21st during the Easter-Passover-Ramadan celebrations. It was our first time together in a long time
and our time was spent on catching up and just enjoying one another. In addition to the folks attending at least 8 others replied with regrets which included members who were mourning the death of loved ones. Wayne Ice, in particular. requests our prayers for his wife who is enduring some very difficult medical issues.

We decided that our next gathering would be to attend the MDW celebration of the Chaplain Corps anniversary, which as of this writing is scheduled for 29 July at the new US Army Museum at Ft Belvoir. Please mark that date and save it to gather with us.

In a separate mailing you received an invitation to the Regimental Reunion in Tucson in October. I hope you will mark your calendars and try to join us.

God bless each of you and bless your celebration of these holy days.

Chaplain Allen Allensworth

Born a slave prior to the Civil War, he retired from the U.S. Army in 1906 with the rank of lieutenant colonel. At that time he was the highest ranking African-American ever to have served in the U.S. Regular Army.

For twenty years Chaplain Allensworth served with one of the Army’s four Black units, the 24th Infantry Regiment. He spent these two decades with the 24th mainly in the West, and finally in the Philippines. He was widely known in the Army as an educator.

As a former slave, a Civil War Navy veteran, college graduate, teacher, Baptist minister, two-time delegate to the Republican National Convention, and the Army’s senior Black officer and Black chaplain, Allen Allensworth overcame incredible obstacles to prove that African-Americans could make outstanding and important contributions which far exceeded the expectations of an unbelieving world. He was a man for all seasons and a transitional role model for the subsequent achievements of his people.

In retirement, Allensworth founded the town of Allensworth, California. Today it is known as Allensworth State Park.

: Rev. Henry M. Turner was the first African American chaplain to gain entry into the U.S. Army Chaplain Corps. While serving as the pastor of Israel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C., Turner offered up his church as a recruiting depot. The first volunteers signed up for a local regiment that was soon designated the United States Colored Troops. As soon as the unit started training on a nearby island in the Potomac River, Turner visited often to preach and encouraged the men. Recommended by both the colonel of the regiment and his AME denomination, Turner applied to be the regiment’s chaplain in July 1863. President Abraham Lincoln approved the appointment in September, paving the way for others to follow. 14 African American chaplains served during the Civil War.

Hi. I would love to hear a few words from any chaplains or chaplain's assistant I served with on active duty, 1974-1982. Also, I was active reserve from 1983 to 1997. Those were great years of ministry.
