SEC provides electricity to about 55,000 residential & commercial meters within 18 counties in central & southside Virginia. At SEC, we appreciate your feedback, both negative & positive. 🎒✏️ Here’s to a great school year!

SEC had a great time helping pack school supply bags for teachers as they headed back to the classroom!

The project was part of a great day spent alongside our partners at Old Dominion Electric Cooperative — working together, giving back and helping educators start the year with a few extra supplies in hand.

☀️ That’s a wrap on summer internships at SEC!

As summer break comes to a close, we’re saying a big thank you to our 2026 interns — Abigail, Daniel, Claire, Blaise and Jeremy!

They worked alongside our Accounting, Engineering and Information Technology teams, taking on real-world projects, gaining hands-on experience and getting to know the people who keep our cooperative moving.

Here’s what they had to say about their summer at SEC:

💬 Jeremy: “I learned many valuable lessons from my projects and from my amazing coworkers that will continue to help me grow professionally.”

💬 Claire: “It taught me critical thinking skills, how to develop proper logic and methodologies to problems I was tasked in, and I got to experience so many wonderful experiences with working on the lines, learning to climb a pole, and much more.”

💬 Abigail: “I learned how each department functions and collaborates with one another to ensure overall success. I truly see how this organization cares for its members.”

💬 Blaise: “My favorite part of working at SEC was meeting all the team members who work at SEC. I also loved working on real-world problems!”

💬 Daniel: “My favorite part of this internship was meeting the whole Southside family and learning more about the way the cooperative works.”

Our internship program is one way SEC puts Cooperative Principle #5 — Education, Training and Information into action, helping students gain professional experience while discovering the many careers that go into serving our members and communities.

🚌 School is back in session!

As students across our communities head back to the classroom, remember to slow down, stay alert and keep an eye out for school buses, students and increased traffic on your morning and afternoon drives.

A few extra seconds of patience can help keep everyone safe. Watch for flashing bus lights, be prepared for frequent stops and always give students plenty of room when they’re crossing the road.

OUTAGE RESTORATION UPDATE 9:30PM

SEC crews continue working across our service territory following this evening’s severe storms, which caused widespread damage, including broken poles, along with downed lines and additional storm-related damage.

17 SEC crews will continue restoration work throughout the night, with additional SEC and contractor crews reporting in the morning to continue those efforts.

Due to the extent of the damage and number of individual outage locations, restoration efforts are expected to continue into tomorrow. Some members will have power restored throughout the night as crews make repairs and restoration efforts continue.

Crews are working outage locations as safely and quickly as conditions allow. As damage is assessed and the repairs needed at each location are determined, Estimated Times of Restoration (ETORs) will continue to be provided and updated as information becomes available.

We appreciate the patience and support of our members as our crews work through the night to restore power across our communities.

Safety Reminders:
- If using a portable generator, do not plug directly into wall outlet. Use a transfer switch and follow manufacturer guidelines.
-Stay 35+ feet from downed power lines and call 911.
-Do not attempt to remove trees or debris near power lines.

Our crews are actively working to assess damage and restore power to members as safely and quickly as possible.

❤️ Investing in healthy communities.

Southside Electric Cooperative and CoBank recently presented a $20,000 donation to the Free Clinic of Powhatan to help expand access to essential healthcare services for our neighbors.

The combined contribution will help purchase a new dental sterilizer and transform the clinic’s emergency food pantry into a marketplace with a nutrition learning center, allowing the clinic to better serve individuals and families across Powhatan, Cumberland, Amelia and Chesterfield counties.

At Southside Electric Cooperative, we’re proud to support organizations that strengthen the communities we serve. Through CoBank’s Sharing Success program, our local investment goes even further, helping improve access to medical, dental and mental health services for those who need them most.
