❤️ Investing in healthy communities.

Southside Electric Cooperative and CoBank recently presented a $20,000 donation to the Free Clinic of Powhatan to help expand access to essential healthcare services for our neighbors.

The combined contribution will help purchase a new dental sterilizer and transform the clinic’s emergency food pantry into a marketplace with a nutrition learning center, allowing the clinic to better serve individuals and families across Powhatan, Cumberland, Amelia and Chesterfield counties.

At Southside Electric Cooperative, we’re proud to support organizations that strengthen the communities we serve. Through CoBank’s Sharing Success program, our local investment goes even further, helping improve access to medical, dental and mental health services for those who need them most.

Thank you to the dedicated team at the Free Clinic of Powhatan for the incredible work you do every day. Together, we’re making a difference.

When severe storms swept through our western service area on the 4th of July, lightning caused damage to one of SEC's substation transformers - requiring a complex restoration response.

SEC crews brought in our mobile substation - a major piece of equipment designed to temporarily provide power while permanent repairs are made. But moving equipment of this size is no simple task.

That’s where great community partners come in. In the middle of the night, Watts Towing answered the call. Their team transported SEC’s mobile substation nearly 90 miles from Crewe to Gretna, helping crews continue restoration efforts.

Electric cooperatives are built on neighbors helping neighbors, and moments like this show how many people work behind the scenes when storms impact our communities.

A huge THANK YOU to Watts Towing for going above and beyond when our members needed you. We appreciate your partnership, dedication and willingness to answer the call, no matter the hour. 👏⚡

Happy 250th Independence Day from your electric cooperative!

On July 4, 1776, America’s founders declared that every generation has both the privilege and the responsibility of protecting the ideals that unite us. 250 years later, that spirit continues to inspire communities across Virginia and throughout our nation.

Rural Virginia holds a special place in America’s story. From the earliest settlements and Revolutionary War leaders to the hardworking families who continue building strong communities today, this region has long reflected the values that define our nation—perseverance, service, integrity and commitment to one another.

We are honored to continue serving one of the most historically significant regions in America. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your homes, your businesses and your communities.

From our cooperative family to yours, we wish you a safe, joyful and meaningful Independence Day.

Happy 250!

🎆 Our SEC team is helping light up the sky for 250!

This week, team members volunteered alongside the Powhatan community to help prepare for this year’s Independence Day celebration—because some connections go beyond the power lines.

We’re proud to help make tomorrow night’s celebration one to remember. Happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸

As we celebrate America's 250th, we remember that independence wasn't won by famous names alone. It was built through the courage and sacrifice of ordinary Virginians—farmers, blacksmiths, merchants and families—who came together to serve something greater than themselves.

That same spirit lives on today in the neighbors, farmers, teachers, first responders, volunteers, local businesses and families who make our communities stronger every day. We're proud to serve the people whose quiet dedication continues to make rural Virginia a remarkable place to call home.

Communities are strongest when neighbors work together.

Before becoming America's first president, George Washington led the Continental Army through the Revolutionary War with perseverance, humility and a steadfast commitment to serving others. After the war, he chose to step away from power, setting a lasting example of servant leadership.

At SEC, service remains at the heart of everything we do. Whether preparing for storms, restoring power or maintaining thousands of miles of electric line, our employees are committed to serving our members with that same spirit of dedication and responsibility.

Leadership begins with a commitment to serve others.
