Matthew Pitell is a 2025–26 DE Space Grant Graduate Fellow and a third-year PhD candidate in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Delaware.
Pitell’s research aims to connect microscopic interactions to bulk material properties through optical trapping and bulk rheology. The insights from these experiments can help create better construction materials for space colonization and predict rough particle failure mechanics allowing for easier planet exploration. He hopes to become a professor and lead his own research lab in the future.
Congrats, Matthew! 🚀
