Today’s groundbreaking for the Chickasaw Nation Health Newcastle Medical Center marks a significant milestone in the Chickasaw Nation’s ability to deliver accessible, quality health services to Chickasaws and other First Americans in Oklahoma.

Our tribe has worked for decades to offer increased health and wellness programs and services. Since becoming one of the first tribes in the U.S. to compact with the Indian Health Service (IHS) to operate our own healthcare system in 1994, we have continued to make great progress, including the construction of the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center in Ada, the development of health clinics throughout the Chickasaw Nation and continually expanding resources that support better health.

We look forward to the positive impact this new medical center will make in the lives of First Americans, as well as future generations who will benefit from greater healthcare opportunities.

For nearly 30 years, Governor Chris Anoatubby has been committed to serving the Chickasaw people in various roles throughout the tribe. From his earliest position in the pharmacy department to his work in commerce and dedicated service as Lt. Governor, he has helped improve and advance the tribe’s ability to enhance the lives of Chickasaws across the country. He has a unique understanding of tribal operations and programs, as well as a deep understanding of the work it takes to truly impact Chickasaw lives. His leadership and experience ensure he is well equipped to lead the Chickasaw Nation into its next chapter and a bright future.

Governor Anoatubby is also supported by a highly experienced and dedicated leadership team unified in its mission. As they move forward, it is with the same vision, the same mission and the same collaborative approach that got the tribe to where it is today. The experienced leaders, the programs and services offered, the many dedicated employees and vision for the future of the Chickasaw Nation all remain in place.

As we celebrate Governor Chris Anoatubby, we also celebrate the continuity and the stability of a strong and sovereign government, a solid economic foundation and bright future of the Chickasaw Nation.

Today marks 90 years since the Chickasaw Nation acquired the land known as Kullihoma. Located just east of Ada, Kullihoma is a place where many Chickasaw families settled after arriving in Indian Territory, now Oklahoma, from our historic Homeland.

Early Chickasaws developed a thriving community at Kullihoma, including schools and churches, and continued to enjoy Chickasaw cultural traditions. Since the land was purchased by the Chickasaw Nation in 1936, we have worked to preserve the cultural and historic significance of the area.

Today, it remains a special site where Chickasaws continue to gather in fellowship and celebration of our thriving community, vibrant cultural heritage and continued progress, with events that honor the traditions, determination and progress of our people.

The Chickasaw language is a treasured gift and a vital part of our tribe’s rich cultural identity that we continue working to preserve. Four years ago this month, we issued a special proclamation designating 2022-2032 as “Chikashshanompa' Ilanompoli'! (Let’s Speak Chickasaw!): A Decade of Chickasaw Language.”

Today, with resources such as Rosetta Stone Chickasaw, the Chickasaw Language Basic app, a dedicated Chickasaw Nation Culture and Humanities YouTube channel, AChickasawDictionary.com and language clubs, there are more ways than ever to access the Chickasaw language.

It was great to gather with tribal, state and federal leaders at OKANA Resort for this year’s Sovereignty Symposium. Thank you to the many presenters and panelists for sharing informative and inspiring information about tribal progress and issues impacting First Americans and Oklahomans.

Each year, the Sovereignty Symposium is a tremendous opportunity to take part in important discussions on a range of topics, from culture and traditions to health, education and many others.
