Individuals that are in an intimate partner violence relationship and have experienced some form of abuse, usually don’t speak up until after the holidays are over, and either the kids go back to school or their abuser goes back to work.

Our advocates answer our crisis hotline 24 hours and can also help discuss a safety plan.

If you know anyone who you think may be in a dangerous situation- you can reach out to them. Check on them - call - reach out during the holidays - Invite them to dinner with your family - let them know you’re there. Many don’t have a support system.

We encourage individuals if they need help to reach out to us or to local law enforcement.

Stepping Stone Shelter is here to help victims of domestic violence and will provide shelter 24/7.

Our Story

It is the philosophy of The Stepping Stone Shelter for Women, Inc. that family violence is a complex and serious problem, not only to the individual family involved, but also for the community. We view the problem as cyclical in nature; the solution requiring that the intervention process be one of education and understanding by each mate as to why the family, as a unit, is in trouble. For the more severe cases, where physical violence is involved, law enforcement involvement may be the first and most realistic step a person must make to begin to end the cycle of violence. We believe this to be a self-help program which promotes self-esteem, independence, personal growth and positive relationships between couples. To accomplish this, we promote a team approach to the community problem of family violence and believe each agency involved in family violence issues has a specific role to play. Thus, we work in conjunction with law enforcement, the prosecutor's office, the schools, the mental health center, churches, hospitals, and other agencies to assist families in trouble and to work toward ending violence in the home.
